Position Summary
We are seeking a senior-level Web Developer to serve as an expert independent contributor and site owner for the firm's recently launched intranet and extranet properties. In this role, you will take full ownership of the full web stack - spanning presentation, application, and integration layers - to ensure these critical digital touchpoints remain stable, secure, performant, and continuously evolving. You will be responsible for debugging existing sites, programming enhancements, and developing new modules and features, while also leading large and complex projects from intake through release. As a senior contributor, you may also review and guide the work of junior engineers on routine programming tasks. The role is based in our Chicago office or may consider a remote working arrangement.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Web Development & Site Ownership:
  • Serve as an expert, senior-level independent contributor with advanced expertise across the full web stack, including presentation, application, and integration layers
  • Maintain, enhance, and extend the firm's newly launched intranet and extranet properties, ensuring stability, performance, security, and continued feature delivery
  • Responsible for the development and support of web applications, which provide essential digital touchpoints for clients, prospects, and employees including but not limited to debugging current sites, programming enhancements, and developing new modules or features
  • Take ownership for large and complex projects that may have multiple phases or workstreams from start to finish to ensure successful implementation; may leverage and review junior engineers' work for routine programming tasks

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner closely with Design, Content, and Branding teams to translate visual designs, editorial requirements, and brand standards into accessible, performant, and maintainable web experiences to maintain consistency with GI's branding guidelines
  • Partner with Product Owners to refine requirements, size work, and deliver features through an agile development workflow using Jira for backlog management, sprint planning, and release tracking
  • Work effectively as part of a team, including the ability to collaborate with business stakeholders, designers, content authors, product owners, scrum masters, and fellow engineers
  • Function independently, receiving directional guidance from work team, manager and/or IT leadership or business leadership; able to self-direct, plan and execute projects from intake through release

Technical Standards & Problem Solving:
  • Implement best practices around code quality, version control, testing, deployment, and site reliability
  • Independently solve a range of complex or non-standard challenges in consideration of potential impacts and formulate and deliver innovative ideas and solutions using best practice and standards
  • Extensive understanding of advanced full-stack web development methodologies, tools, and techniques, including modern front-end frameworks, server-side runtimes, RESTful service design, and content management platforms
  • Build user interfaces by transforming wireframes and design mockups into functional, interactive web pages.
  • Connect front-end interfaces with back-end databases, content management systems, servers and third-party services.

Compliance & Accessibility:
  • Apply compliance requirements within scope of responsibility and provide documentation as necessary at the direction of GI's Compliance department
  • Maintain quality control of all public-facing web content and functionality such that it adheres to applicable marketing-compliance review processes and financial-services regulatory requirements, including FINRA and SEC disclosure, recordkeeping, and supervisory standards governing firm communications in conjunction with the appropriate responsible teams
  • Ensure web properties meet established accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA and applicable ADA requirements

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • You have around 8-10+ years of experience building and optimizing large web applications in React or similar frameworks and integration with contentment manage platforms like Wordpress.
  • Proven track record improving real-user performance metrics at scale, from page load to post-load interactivity.
  • Strength in modern bundling and build tooling such as Webpack and performance profiling.
  • Experienced with Azure and devops deployments
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to design paved-road abstractions, guardrails, and tooling for many teams.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication across platform and product teams, with a bias toward iterative, measurable impact.
  • You don't need to be an AI expert, but you're curious and willing to adopt AI tools to work smarter and deliver better results.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a fast-paced and frequent code deployment environment
  • Proficient in C#
  • Experience with Angular
  • Strong understanding of interaction patterns, responsive layout systems, accessibility, usability principles, and visual design best practices
  • Proficient in Figma
  • Up-to-date on modern tools and developer workflows (Cursor, Vercel, etc.)
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently with minimal guidance
  • Willingness to work in person at our office 4-5 days a week
