Job description

Level:Journeyman

Location:McLean, VA / Washington, DC (onsite and offsite support as authorized by the customer).

Clearance:Unclassified / Low Risk, Non-Sensitive

Education:Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.

Outcomes

The successful candidate is expected to accomplish the following outcomes in the first year on the position:

  • Deliver accurate, high-quality, accessible, and timely products and services that meet FHWA requirements and support positive Government performance feedback.
  • Identify and resolve quality, coordination, schedule, or technical issues early enough to prevent customer or mission impact.
Responsibilities

The Web Content Specialist performs the Web Content Writer/Editorial Specialist and Trainer function, combining writing, editing, content management, quality control, training, and website/intranet publishing support. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write, edit, proofread, and quality‑control web content, documentation, outreach materials, process guidance, and training products.
  • Use approved content management systems to upload, maintain, update, and post content on agency websites and intranets.
  • Optimize text for search, readability, and user experience while ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance.
  • Coordinate quarterly certification processes to confirm agency web information remains current and accurate.
  • Use graphic applications to crop, recolor, resize, and prepare web images, including appropriate alternative text.
  • Develop and deliver staff training, presentations, job aids, and process or procedure guidance related to web content management.
  • Correct broken links, formatting issues, stale content, and other web‑quality defects and provide feedback on site organization and navigation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 5–7 years of experience in web content management, with at least 3 years within the last 5 years.
  • Experience writing and editing web content, documentation, and effective training materials.
  • Experience using content management systems to upload, maintain, and publish web and intranet content.
  • Working knowledge of SEO, Federal Section 508 accessibility requirements, and web quality control.
  • Ability to prepare and present outreach training and coordinate content‑management processes and procedures.

The following qualifications are desired:

  • Transportation experience, especially highway or surface transportation.
  • Experience with Drupal, Google Sites, SharePoint, GovDelivery, or comparable Federal platforms.
  • Experience with database content administration and Federal web governance.
Travel

Travel may be required to attend customer meetings, program reviews, stakeholder engagements, training events, conferences, production activities, or mission‑related activities as directed.
