The College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University is seeking an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications & Marketing to lead the college's integrated marketing and communications efforts, including strategic planning, social media, web content, digital campaigns, and audience-focused storytelling. As a member of the department's leadership team, this position provides proactive strategic counsel and direction to ensure communications initiatives align with the college's mission, brand standards, and institutional priorities. The assistant director plays a critical role in developing and implementing comprehensive communications and marketing strategies that enhance the college's visibility, strengthen stakeholder engagement, support recruitment efforts, and advance its overall reputation. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners, this role guides stakeholders toward effective, data-informed communication approaches that drive measurable results and meaningful audience connections.

The assistant director oversees the college's digital communications presence, ensuring content is engaging, accessible, and aligned with best practices in user experience and content strategy. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with university system policies and applicable state and federal regulations, including accessibility and data privacy requirements. With a forward-thinking approach, the assistant director monitors emerging trends, technologies, and industry best practices in communications, marketing, and digital engagement to continuously improve the effectiveness of college initiatives. By championing audience-centered communication strategies, this role ensures information reaches key stakeholders through intuitive, accessible, and impactful digital experiences that support the college's strategic goals.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Partners with departments, centers, institutes, and internal teams to develop workflows, identify communication and promotional opportunities, translate strategic goals into measurable initiatives, represent communications interests in strategic discussions, and foster trust through effective communication and planning practices.

  • Leads the development and execution of strategic marketing and communications plans aligned with organizational goals, overseeing content creation, branding materials, campaign deliverables, production schedules, and budget management for digital and print initiatives.

  • Oversees all aspects of website strategy and operations, including content management, technical maintenance, design, analytics, reporting, search engine marketing, and compliance with branding, accessibility, privacy, and regulatory standards to optimize performance and user engagement.

  • Provides leadership and supervision for communications, marketing, social media, and web personnel by assigning responsibilities, monitoring deliverables, conducting team meetings, and supporting staff through mentorship, training, performance management, and professional development.

  • Develops and implements workflows and operational processes that improve efficiency, address organizational challenges, and ensure equitable distribution of communication services across departments.

  • Establishes annual performance and project goals, evaluates outcomes, and enforces quality control measures to ensure compliance with branding standards, communication guidelines, accessibility requirements, privacy regulations, and applicable state and federal policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Seven years of related experience.

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • Proficiency in tools such as: Google Analytics, SEO/SEM dashboards, UX/UI, Paid advertising, Performance analytics and reporting, CMS experience, GA4, and email marketing and social media analytics.

  • Familiarity with decision-making and KPI development for marketing campaigns.

  • Experience leading teams, delegating tasks, and mentoring staff and student workers.

  • Expertise in managing digital campaigns, including social media, websites, email, and multimedia content.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to develop and implement marketing and communications plans.

  • Strong collaboration abilities related to faculty, administration, and external partners.

Salary: $110,000 to $123,000 yearly

Schedule: This position will include some evening and weekend work.
