Web Component Developer information

What is a web component developer?

Web Component Developers are software engineers who specialize in building reusable and encapsulated user interface elements for web applications using web component standards such as Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML Templates. Their work enables developers to create modular code that can be used across different projects and frameworks. Web Component Developers often work with technologies like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and may also use supporting libraries or frameworks to streamline development. They play a key role in modern front-end web development by improving code maintainability and scalability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web component developer?

To thrive as a Web Component Developer, you need expertise in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a deep understanding of web standards and component-based architecture. Familiarity with tools and frameworks like Lit, Stencil, or Polymer, as well as version control systems such as Git, are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and attention to detail help developers create reusable and maintainable components. These skills ensure the delivery of scalable, efficient, and consistent user interfaces across web applications.

What are some common challenges faced by web component developers when integrating custom components into large-scale applications?

Web Component Developers often encounter challenges related to ensuring compatibility across different browsers and frameworks, especially when integrating custom components into large-scale apps. Maintaining encapsulation and avoiding style or script conflicts with existing codebases can require careful planning. Additionally, coordinating with other teams to establish consistent conventions and reusable component libraries is essential for scalability. Being proactive in documentation and testing helps mitigate integration issues and ensures seamless collaboration.

What is the difference between Web Component Developer vs Front-End Developer?

Web Component Developers focus specifically on creating reusable, encapsulated web components using standards like Web Components API, while Front-End Developers work on building entire user interfaces with various frameworks. Both roles require similar skills and certifications, but their scope differs: Web Component Developers specialize in component creation, whereas Front-End Developers handle broader UI development.

Job description

You will join the team responsible for building the foundational user experience for NVIDIA GPU Cloud (NGC), the unified platform for all NVIDIA cloud-based products. This is a core role passionate about delivering the next generation of essential, high-impact services that underpin the entire NGC ecosystem. This engineer works alongside architects, designers, and backend engineers to deliver a world-class, secure, and modern interface for our enterprise customers. We seek a collaborator with an open and encouraging approach who is eager to deliver quality software systems in a rapidly evolving cloud environment. The Frontend Web Software Engineer will mainly work on web applications built with React.js, applying modern component-based architectures and focusing on well-tested, standards-compliant code. The successful candidate will have a growth mindset and proactively apply AI tools and agents to improve development effectiveness and increase efficiency throughout the product lifecycle.

What you will be doing:
  • Build and implement critical features for core NGC services, including Identity and Access Management, user and group management, account security and credentials, and billing and subscription flows.

  • Play a key role in developing the unified portal that acts as the gateway for all NVIDIA cloud products.

  • Proactively apply AI tools and agents to boost code quality, speed up development, and increase overall system stability.

  • Drive the evolution of our application architecture and development patterns for increasingly large and complex components.

  • Work closely with Product, UX, and Backend teams to convert complex requirements into elegant, responsive UIs and satisfying user experiences.

  • Participate in all stages of the product lifecycle, including planning, documentation, code review, and offering helpful insights.

  • Estimate personal timelines and coordinate work to deliver achievements effectively.

  • Present and/or demonstrate your work/research in front of colleagues from across the company.

What we need to see:
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Experience working as a contributor to a medium-to-large scale frontend web application or project

  • Experience working with React.js or another comparable framework (Vue.js, SvelteKit, Angular)

  • Skill in developing refined, responsive user interfaces that ensure a pleasing user experience

  • Engage with technical requirements, understand complex systems, and efficiently come up with coded solutions

  • Ability to build meaningful tests using established patterns

  • Open attitude about sharing work-in-progress and developing ideas (from yourself and others)

  • Enthusiasm for the fundamentals of frontend work: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and the ecosystem that surrounds the client-side application

Ways to stand out from the crowd:
  • Direct experience with leading software development at a project / component level, large complex web-based software projects, and building applications with a mainstream JavaScript framework (React, Vue, Angular, Svelte)

  • Experience with Typescript, bundle configuration with Webpack, and testing frameworks like Cypress, Selenium, Jest, etc.

  • Has built software with Python, Go, Java, or similar programming language

  • Has delivered software in a cloud context and is familiar with the patterns and process of managing cloud infrastructure

  • Demonstrated interest in Kubernetes, cloud-native computing, and frontend development: JavaScript modules, accessibility, styles and layout, etc.
