WEB ACCESSIBILITY SPECIALIST

The Web Accessibility Specialist will provide hands-on technical accessibility testing, evaluation, remediation guidance, and validation across websites, web applications, digital forms, content management systems, and other digital platforms.

The Specialist will evaluate digital assets against WCAG 2.1 Level AA and applicable ADA Title II requirements, identify accessibility barriers, document findings, recommend corrective actions, and work collaboratively with technical teams and content owners to improve accessibility.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Accessibility Testing and Assessment:

  • Conduct manual and automated accessibility testing of websites, web applications, online forms, and other digital assets.
  • Evaluate digital assets for conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and applicable ADA Title II requirements.
  • Identify accessibility barriers and document findings.
  • Classify accessibility issues based on severity and impact.
  • Conduct follow-up testing to validate remediation activities.

2. Technical Remediation and Validation:

  • Develop actionable technical recommendations for resolving accessibility issues.
  • Review HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WAI-ARIA implementation for accessibility.
  • Work with developers, vendors, and content owners to support remediation.
  • Validate accessibility fixes and document testing results.
  • Support development of repeatable accessibility testing and validation methodologies.

3. Accessibility Monitoring and Technical Support:

  • Recommend appropriate accessibility testing tools and monitoring practices.
  • Support accessibility monitoring and reporting activities.
  • Assist with prioritizing high-risk and high-impact accessibility issues.
  • Review third-party accessibility documentation, including Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs).
  • Provide technical accessibility guidance and best practices.
  • Support accessibility training and knowledge transfer for technical and content teams.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • Demonstrated professional experience in web or digital accessibility.
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA and ADA digital accessibility requirements.
  • Hands-on experience conducting manual and automated accessibility testing.
  • Experience identifying accessibility barriers and developing remediation recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • HTML
    • CSS
    • JavaScript
    • WAI-ARIA
  • Experience evaluating websites and web applications for accessibility.
  • Experience using accessibility testing and validation tools.
  • Ability to clearly document accessibility findings, severity, remediation guidance, and validation results.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, vendors, content owners, and nontechnical stakeholders.

Preferred skills include:

  • Experience testing mobile applications, multimedia, GIS/mapping tools, or third-party platforms for accessibility.
  • Experience reviewing VPATs and ACRs.
  • Experience providing technical accessibility remediation guidance.
  • Experience supporting government or public-sector digital accessibility programs.
  • Experience providing accessibility training to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Relevant accessibility certifications, such as IAAP CPACC, WAS, CPWA, or DHS Trusted Tester.
