Key responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Patrol's Shopify app, including building out AI architecture, customer-facing UI/UX, and Shopify integration.

  • Own system reliability and performance by identifying bottlenecks, improving observability, and ensuring scalable infrastructure.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards and system architecture design.

Job description

Patrol is on a mission to help brands building on Shopify become more accessible and ADA compliant. Our AI-powered platform helps Shopify merchants automatically find and fix accessibility issues, ensuring their websites are more ADA-compliant. From auditing + practical testing to generating and applying accessible code changes (previously done by a software dev), Patrol enables brands to deliver better, more inclusive shopping experiences for every customer and better protect themselves from the 10,000+ demand letters and ADA lawsuits targeting brands every year.

We’re proud to work with a fast-growing roster of forward-thinking DTC and CPG brands that care about doing the right thing for their customers and protecting their businesses. We’ve been scaling rapidly since our seed round, backed by top investors like NextView, Founders Collective, Newark Venture Partners and Hawke Media, and we’re just getting started.

As a small but mighty team, we operate with high trust, low ego, and an obsession with building a product our customers love. You’ll have direct access to the leadership team, real ownership over your work, and the opportunity to shape a product that’s changing the way brands approach accessibility.

Your Mission

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer at Patrol, you will be joining our tight-knit engineering team of 5 and help scale it as we grow, reporting directly to Patrol AI's CTO. The primary responsibility of the role will be development work on Patrol’s Shopify app, including building out robustness of our agentic AI architecture, customer facing UI/UX and continuing our Shopify integration. This role is perfect for any individual who wishes to found a startup in the future and wants to experience early product development, scaling from 1 to 2, including having an impact on product direction. In particular, this role will have an heavy influence on designing system architecture as well as mentorship of more junior members of the team.

This is a hybrid position and you will be expected to be in-person at the Boston office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What You’ll Do

Extend and harden our agentic AI architecture for writing accessible code, including strategies for correctness, reliability, and graceful failure handling.

Architect infrastructure for new product surface areas, including compliance capabilities beyond accessibility.

Build and improve the customer-facing Shopify embedded app, shipping features across the full stack from database to UI.

Own system reliability and performance — identify bottlenecks, improve observability, and ensure our distributed worker infrastructure scales smoothly as customer volume grows.

Mentor junior engineers and shape engineering standards as the team grows.

Who We’re Looking For

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

7+ years of professional software development experience.

Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).

Experience with job queue / task orchestration systems (e.g., BullMQ, SQS) including job dependency graphs and worker pool scaling.

Experience with containerized cloud infrastructure (AWS ECS/Fargate, auto-scaling, VPC networking, S3, CloudWatch).

Familiarity with LLM API integration, prompt engineering, and agentic tool-calling patterns.

Nice to Haves

Experience building Shopify apps or working with the Shopify ecosystem (themes, Admin API, app extensions).

Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA compliance, axe-core or similar tooling).

Experience with Infrastructure as Code frameworks (SST, CDK, Terraform, or Pulumi).

Exposure to graph databases or knowledge graph systems.

Experience building or scaling real-time monitoring and auto-scaling pipelines (CloudWatch, custom metrics).

Prior startup experience or founding experience — you thrive with ambiguity and move fast without sacrificing quality.

Why You Should Join Patrol

Mission With Real Impact: At Patrol, we are passionate about helping two groups of people we deeply care about: People living with disabilities and fellow entrepreneurs building in the Shopify ecosystem. It’s rare to help two awesome groups of people with one product!

High-Ownership Environment: Small team, big opportunities - your work will have a direct impact on our growth. This is an opportunity to build a new function at Patrol and become a leader as the company scales.

Backed by Top Investors: We’re funded and growing fast, with strong support from some of the best names in early-stage investing - NextView, Founders Collective, Newark Venture Partners, Hawke Media, and Pari Passu Ventures.

Culture of Trust & Autonomy: We care about outcomes, we work hard as a team, and we leave it all on the field. If you’re just looking for a 9–5, this role is not a fit for you.

Flexibility: Hybrid with collaboration in-person in our Cambridge, MA hub.

Competitive compensation and equity.

Free Healthcare, Dental, and Vision coverage from day one.

401k Match for all employees.

Team Lunch is covered every Wednesday.

Opportunities for career growth as we scale.
