Job description

Pennoni is currently initiating a search for an PE Diver to lead Underwater and Topside Inspection Teams in our Raleigh, NC office
  • Use relevant work experience to perform underwater and topside inspections of bridges and waterfront structures located in NC, SC, VA, DE, MD, DC, PA, NJ and throughout CONUS.
  • Experience with providing emergency response services associated with weather events.
  • Help ensure the safety of the traveling public through detailed assessments of bridge components and channel conditions below water.
  • Manage bridge inspection task orders and interface with client / owner project manager.
  • Prepare inspection reports, including CADD sketches and soundings, to clearly convey findings to client.
  • Participate in the design development of transportation improvement and bridge projects.
  • Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project.
  • Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for equipment maintenance, diving safety, and inspection procedures.
  • Plans, schedules, and performs bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific bridge owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and OSHA Regulations.

Required Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering License (PE)
  • 8+ years of underwater bridge and underwater inspection experience.
  • Meet NBIS Underwater and Topside Team Inspector requirements
  • Commercial Diving (ADCI) Certification
  • Current USDOT physical
  • ADCI medical examination within last 12 months.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Physically capable of performing field work; including working in inclement weather, climbing slopes and ladders, carrying gear (up to 75 lbs.), operating small boats, and using hand and power tools, etc.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
  • Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet client objectives.
  • Occasional travel/overnight travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements and project location.

Preferred Qualifications
  • ADCI Air-diving Supervisor Certification
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation; Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Structural Design experience with waterfront structures and bridges
  • Load rating and structural analysis experience
  • NDT/NDE experience a plus
  • VDOT, NCDOT and/or SCDOT experience a plus
