JOB SUMMARY
Administers all types of respiratory therapy modalities and diagnostic procedures. Upon the written or verbal order of a physician, institutes, monitors and discontinues ventilatory support and differential lung ventilation.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Director Rehabilitation Services
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Associate degree required. Must have some medical training in respiratory therapy.
Work Experience
Must have a minimum of one (1) year respiratory therapy work experience.
License/Certification
RRT
Must be registry eligible or registered as a respiratory therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA), as well as current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administers all types of respiratory therapy modalities and diagnostic procedures.
Upon the written or verbal order of a physician, institutes, monitors and discontinues ventilatory support and differential lung ventilation.
Administers and evaluates diagnostic respiratory studies.
Assists physicians with bedside tracheostomy care.
Provides information regarding respiratory care to physicians.
Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and the Respiratory Care Guidelines
Assists with training for students, new team members, and other team members when necessary.
Able to obtain blood gasses from all sites.
Analyzes and reports results accurately.
Initiates and manages all types of airways and associated equipment.
Accurately and completely documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team. Provides a complete and accurate report. Makes recommendations as appropriate.
Able to initiate, monitor and manage patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives.
Communicates well with supervisors and other therapists
OTHER DUTIES
Performs other related duties and special project work as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The staff therapist will work in a normal hospital environment. Therapist must have normal/corrected eyesight, and full range of hearing. The therapist must be able to maneuver various respiratory equipment, including pushing and pulling equipment up to 75 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, and sitting are expected. The staff therapist must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.

Transferring, repositioning patients.

Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
