Job description

Rock Wall Attendant (Must be 16 years or older to apply)

Washington City Community Center

Wage: $11.00 Hourly

(Free Individual Community Center Membership while employed)


GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of rock wall specific duties as needed to safely instruct, belay, and supervise use of the community center rock wall. Will also be asked at times to help with set-up of community center special events.

Works under the general supervision of the WCCC Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for all equipment associated with the rock wall. Maintains inventory and assures safety through regular equipment inspections. Creates, maintains and adjusts climbing routes for patrons of all abilities. Provides instruction regarding climbing safely, proper use of climbing equipment and climbing technique. Assists patrons with putting harnesses on and off. Certified belayer according to Climbing Wall Association and Washington City Community Center standards. Effectively communicate with community center patrons regarding programs, special events and classes offered at the climbing wall as well as in the community center in general.


Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

Education and Experience:

  1. Some High School Experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

knowledge of the methods, techniques, and philosophies of rock climbing, canyoneering or mountaineering. Creating and implementing rock climbing classes that caters to a variety of skill levels and age groups. Experience offering instruction in a rock climbing, canyoneering, or mountaineering setting.

Many functions of the work pose high degree of hazard uncertainty. Physical readiness and conditioning will be a condition of job retention. Various levels of mental application required, i.e., memory for details, emotional stability, discriminate thinking, creative problem solving. Continuous use of motor skills.

Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid within six months of hire date.


Work Environment:


Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls and typical settings associated with outdoor recreation. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, etc. Communicating, i.e. talking, hearing, and seeing, is essential to job effectiveness. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.


As per Washington City policy and/or procedures, a background check, and drug screening evaluation will be required for potential new hire candidates prior to an offer of employment. I understand that if I am under the age of 18, I must have my parent or my legal guardian grant their permission for the background check and drug screening test to be performed.
