What is a Wayfinding Design job?

A Wayfinding Design job involves creating navigational systems that help people efficiently move through physical spaces like airports, hospitals, campuses, and urban environments. Wayfinding designers use signage, maps, symbols, colors, and digital interfaces to guide individuals while enhancing user experience and accessibility. This role requires a mix of graphic design, architecture, psychology, and urban planning to develop clear and intuitive wayfinding solutions.

What are common challenges faced by professionals in Wayfinding Design?

One of the main challenges in Wayfinding Design is creating solutions that are intuitive and effective for people with diverse needs, including those with disabilities or limited language skills. Designers often need to balance aesthetic considerations with strict functionality and regulatory compliance, especially in complex spaces like hospitals, airports, or urban centers. They must frequently coordinate with architects, facility managers, and other stakeholders to ensure signage and navigation cues integrate seamlessly. Adapting to changing building layouts and continually improving systems based on user feedback are also integral parts of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Wayfinding Design position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Wayfinding Design, you need strong skills in graphic design, spatial planning, and an understanding of user experience (UX), often supported by a degree in graphic design, environmental design, or a related field. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, CAD programs, and relevant signage standards or accessibility guidelines is typically necessary. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure that wayfinding systems are clear, accessible, and effectively guide people through complex environments.

Job description

Interior Designer โ€” Orlando, FL

Step into a design-forward, nationally recognized practice where your creativity shapes spaces that improve daily life. As an Interior Designer III in Orlando, you will lead complex interiors from concept through completionโ€”owning design narratives, elevating client experiences, and mentoring rising talent alongside award-winning architects, planners, and engineers.

Why you should apply

  • Lead visible, purpose-driven work: Guide interior environments for healthcare, higher education, workplace, civic, and mixed-useโ€”projects with scale, complexity, and community impact.
  • Create with autonomy: Drive programming, test fits, concept development, materiality, and experiential storytelling with a strong voice in key design decisions.
  • Accelerate your growth: Access in-house research, BIM/VDC expertise, sustainability leaders, and a robust design library to sharpen your craft and portfolio.
  • Earn client trust: Present strategies to executives and user groups; translate qualitative goals into measurable outcomes across schedule, budget, and performance.
  • Advance credentials: Support for NCIDQ, LEED/WELL, CEUs, paid professional dues, and conference attendance; professional registration preferred and championed.
  • Strong total rewards: Competitive salary with annual bonus eligibility, 401(k) match, comprehensive medical/dental/vision, generous PTO, paid parental leave, and wellness benefits.
  • Studio-based collaboration: Full-time, on-site role in Orlando for deep teamwork, mentorship, and rapid decision-making.

What youโ€™ll do

  • Lead multiple interiors projects from programming and space planning through CDs, CA, and post-occupancy evaluation.
  • Develop cohesive concepts, palettes, and FF&E strategies aligned to client brand, user needs, and building performance.
  • Produce and oversee Revit/BIM documentation, details, and specifications meeting code, life-safety, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with architecture, MEP/structural, lighting, AV, acoustics, and landscape to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Facilitate client and user workshops; translate insights into test fits, adjacency diagrams, blocking/stacking, and room data sheets.
  • Present to stakeholders; uphold design intent while integrating feedback to protect quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage vendors, pricing, mockups, and submittals; guide CA tasks including RFIs, ASIs, punch lists, and site observations.
  • Mentor Interior Designer I/II team members; review work for accuracy and model best practices in documentation and delivery.
  • Advance sustainability, wellness, and equitable design strategies; contribute to internal reviews and design charrettes.

About you

  • 8+ years of professional interior design experience.
  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s in Interior Design or Interior Architecture (CIDA-accredited preferred).
  • NCIDQ achieved or in progress; professional registration preferred; LEED/WELL accreditation a plus.
  • Healthcare project experience preferred; additional experience in higher education, workplace, civic, or mixed-use valued.
  • Strong Revit proficiency required; Enscape/Lumion, Bluebeam, and Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred.
  • Expertise in space planning, detailing, finish and furniture specifications, and code/life-safety across occupancy types.
  • Confident communicator skilled at workshops, presentations, and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Portfolio showcasing concept clarity, material sophistication, technical rigor, and built results.

Impact areas youโ€™ll touch

  • Healthcare: Patient-centered, staff-optimized environments that enhance outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Higher Education: Agile learning spaces, labs, and student life hubs with durable, future-ready systems.
  • Workplace: Hybrid-ready planning, brand-forward experiences, and healthy, flexible environments.
  • Civic/Mixed-Use: Public-facing interiors balancing durability, wayfinding, accessibility, and universal design.

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive base salary aligned to market and experience.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans with HSA/FSA options.
  • Generous PTO plus paid holidays; paid parental leave.
  • Professional development support for NCIDQ/LEED/WELL, conferences, and courses.
  • Orlando studio amenities, ergonomic setup, sample library access, and wellness programming.
