THE ROLE

We are seeking a Maintenance Electrician Journeyman to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.


HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

Overall support responsibility for the maintenance, upgrade, relocation, troubleshooting, and new installation of all facility-related electrical systems. Perform highly diversified duties to install, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipe and electrical systems in the manufacturing plant and office

HOW YOULL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • Plan the layout and install the power supply wiring and conduits for 110V and multi-phase/voltage electricity for new machinery and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
  • Electrical machine diagnosis and troubleshooting for a wide variety of mechanical equipment.
  • Removal and installation of industrial machinery including wiring, motors, control panels and other necessary utilities.
  • Internal construction and improvement projects with specific emphasis on multi-voltage power distribution.
  • Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment as well as troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical components.
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, detect and replace defective controls, components, and printed circuit boards on malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, electrical equipment, and automated controls.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance work on machinery and equipment. Read and interpret drawings, schematics, equipment manuals and work orders to perform required service.
  • Conduct visual inspections and tests of machinery and equipment. Confer with other maintenance workers and or technical service representatives to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with equipment.
  • Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, doors, walls, framework, trim, and other general construction experience.
  • Perform basic plumbing tasks including soldering and PVC piping.
  • Safely operate all hand and power tools common to the skills listed such as benders, cutting torch, welding equipment, saws, drills, etc.
  • Work in a safe manner and observe all safety procedures including but not limited to the proper use of the man-lift and forklift, lock out/tag out, HAZMAT, Personal Protective Equipment, Confined Space, and electrical safety procedures.
  • Initiate purchase orders for needed parts. Work with GSS and vendors to obtain these parts and install as needed. Record and log information into the computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, parts, and labor.
  • Follow all company rules, procedures, and policies.
  • Work with machine operators to implement TMP (Total Productive Maintenance) plans.

WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS

EDUCATION: Associates Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school required. Industrial technology degree desired. Electrical apprenticeship desired.

EXPERIENCE: 2-5 years related experience and/or training; working knowledge of PLCs and programming desired

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATION: Journeyman Electrician license or Industrial Journeyman license required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide. Able to use measuring devices and interpret drawings, specifications, and manuals.
  • Able to make accurate electrical calculations for transformers, conductors, breakers and fusing specifications.
  • Working knowledge of VFD functionality.
  • Thorough knowledge of 240V grounded B distribution.
  • Thorough knowledge of 480V 3 phase distribution to 24V DC power supply.
  • Must be comfortable working in a team environment consisting of employees and outside contractors.
  • Required to demonstrate good judgment when performing and planning to perform the specified tasks.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting) preferred.
  • Welding, cutting, brazing and metal fabrication experience.
  • Hydraulic components and hydraulic system experience.
  • Press brake experience.
  • CNC machine and/or machining center experience.
  • Air compressor, pneumatic systems, air dryer, refrigeration system experience, HVAC, and ductwork experience. HVAC and refrigeration recovery certification a plus.
  • Plasma cutting, laser cutting experience.
  • Forklift, mobile equipment, scissor lift and articulating lift experience.
  • Mobile equipment or mechanics experience a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, solvents, powders, fumes, vapors, and noise. May be required to work outside. May be required to work above or below ground.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift 50 lbs. daily. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Able to work on ladders, scissors lifts or boom lifts as required. Employee must be comfortable in a fast paced, continuously changing environment.
