Water Treatment Operator Trainee Jobs (NOW HIRING)

The Water Treatment Operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, and maintaining DHI water treatment systems at customer and company locations. This position requires hands-on experience with dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, chemical treatment, water testing, pumps, generators, and related field equipment.

The operator will monitor treatment performance, adjust chemical dosing and equipment controls, perform required water-quality testing, and communicate operating conditions to supervisors and customer representatives. This position requires working outdoors in changing weather conditions, working at heights of 15 feet or more, and following all company safety and environmental requirements.

Water Treatment and DAF Operations

• Operate, monitor, and maintain dissolved air flotation systems and related water treatment equipment.
• Assist with the mobilization, setup, startup, operation, shutdown, and demobilization of treatment systems.
• Monitor DAF system performance, including flow rates, pressure, air systems, recycle pumps, skimmers, sludge levels, and solids removal.
• Adjust equipment controls, chemical dosage, flow rates, air pressure, and other treatment settings to maintain required operating conditions.
• Identify and report issues involving pumps, chemical systems, skimmers, valves, hoses, controls, and other DAF components.
• Assist with troubleshooting treatment performance, equipment failures, leaks, blockages, and mechanical issues.
• Monitor and manage sludge, recovered solids, and waste streams produced during treatment operations.

Chemical Treatment and Water Testing

• Perform chemical dosing of produced water based on water quality, flow rates, treatment goals, and customer requirements.
• Handle and transfer treatment chemicals according to company procedures and safety requirements.
• Conduct field and laboratory testing for H2S, ORP, pH, turbidity, total suspended solids, iron, residual chemical, and TPH/TOG.
• Collect water samples and accurately record test results, chemical usage, flow rates, and operating conditions.
• Communicate test results and treatment changes to supervisors and other treatment personnel.
• Assist with optimizing chemical usage while maintaining treatment quality and customer specifications.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly labeled chemical storage and testing areas.
Equipment and Field Operations
• Lay and pick up poly line, connect hoses and fittings, and operate transfer pumps used in treatment operations.
• Set, operate, inspect, and service pumps, generators, tanks, hoses, valves, and supporting equipment.
• Load and unload pipe, chemicals, field materials, tools, and equipment onto trailers and trucks.
• Inspect equipment before, during, and after use and report maintenance or repair needs.
• Use common hand and power tools, including hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
• Drive company vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and personnel to job sites.
• Maintain clean and organized equipment, vehicles, job sites, and work areas.
Safety and Communication
• Follow DHI Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental procedures at all times.
• Wear required personal protective equipment and follow chemical handling requirements.
• Participate in job safety analyses, tailgate meetings, equipment inspections, and required training.
• Assist with spill containment, cleanup activities, and environmental response as directed.
• Report unsafe conditions, spills, injuries, equipment damage, and near misses immediately.
• Communicate with team members using radios, telephones, hand signals, and other approved methods.
• Interact professionally with customer representatives and other contractors at the job site.
• Attend and complete required DOT, OSHA, environmental, and company safety training.
• Complete daily operating reports, treatment logs, inspection forms, chemical records, and field documentation accurately.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Work is regularly performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme cold, heat, wind, rain, snow, and wet conditions.
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment, chemicals, noise, dust, vibration, and pressurized systems.
• Ability to work at heights of 15 feet or more.
• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Specific vision abilities are required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to safely climb ladders, platforms, tanks, trailers, and treatment equipment.
• Must be able to wear hearing, eye, hand, respiratory, and other required protective equipment.
EDUCATION
• High School Diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 1 year of handson water treatment experience required.
• Handson experience operating dissolved air flotation systems required.
• Experience with chemical treatment, chemical dosing, coagulation, flocculation, and solids separation required.
• Experience performing waterquality testing and adjusting treatment processes based on test results.
• Experience with pumps, generators, tanks, hoses, valves, and oilfield water systems preferred.
• Produced water, industrial water, wastewater, oil and gas, or water logistics experience preferred.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Working knowledge of DAF operation, including recycle pumps, air systems, skimmers, sludge handling, chemical injection, and basic controls.
• Ability to monitor treatment performance and make operating adjustments.
• Ability to perform water testing and accurately document results.
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance skills.
• Strong organizational and timemanagement skills.
• Must be detailoriented due to safety, chemical handling, and treatmentquality requirements.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with limited supervision.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their use, repair, and maintenance.
• Basic computer, mobile device, and electronic reporting skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
WORK SCHEDULE
• Fulltime schedule based on operational and customer needs.
• Must be willing to work additional hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and oncall assignments as required.
• Travel to customer locations and other DHI operating areas may be required.
