Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting a Water Resource Engineer with 5+ years of experience. The position is available in any of our Florida offices (Tampa , Lakeland, Gainesville, Orlando, Jacksonville,  Pensacola, West Palm Beach, and Tallahassee) and will support watershed management, stormwater design, environmental compliance, investigation, and water quality restoration projects. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering Sciences from an accredited four-year college or university. Master's degree is a plus. Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling (e.g. ICPR, SWMM, HEC-RAS) is required, statistical analysis, GIS training or knowledge is desired, and water quality modeling and programming skills are considered beneficial. Must have experience with data management and technical writing. Must have an Professional Engineer License or be able to obtain within 12 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as project engineer on water resource related projects
  • Organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing assignments and tasks
  • Performs standard or routine calculations; Responsible to input data into and/or run standard or, in some cases, advanced computer programs under supervision
  • Preparing and checking project design, calculations, and drawings under direct supervision
  • Prepare / assist in the preparation of permit applications and supporting materials
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures, site safety standards and permit requirements
  • Performs increasingly complex field sampling observations and data collection assignments under limited supervision of more experienced field personnel
  • Assist with preparing technical reports documenting the work performed and findings of investigations
  • Compiles information from reports and published documents; Evaluates and/or analyses the compiled information following standard methods or specific instructions
Skills / QualificationsSkills / Qualifications
  • 5+ years of prior related work experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Experience with office productivity and industry-specific hydrologic and hydraulic software (e.g., MSOffice, ESRI GIS, EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, MIKE SHE and ICPR) is required
  • Experience conducting data analyses with statistical software desired
  • Must have sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in varying environments (office, lab and field settings)
  • Ability to swim
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail as well as a track record of producing quality work products
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment, whether it be remotely or locally
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Ability to establish effective internal and external working relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients, supervisor or project manager regarding work assignments required
  • Valid Florida driver's license; and must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
