Water and Sewage Operator

Description

Essential Job Functions:

Under direction, monitors water production and sewage disposal. Services and adjusts water well and sewage lift stations pump. Performs other duties as required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • On an assigned shift or on call, checks water well and sewage lift station pump motors and switches to ensure proper operation.
  • Performs routine servicing of equipment.
  • Maintains pump building and surrounding grounds.
  • Makes or initiates adjustments of water pressures and makes necessary repairs.
  • Monitors treatment of water supply and replaces and checks chlorine cylinders to ensure proper chlorination and to prevent leakage.
  • Takes readings of water consumption and keeps records pertaining to pumping operations and services performed.
  • Answer emergency calls regarding water leaks and sewer blockages when regular crews are unavailable.
  • Trains lower-level personnel in pumping operations.
  • May operates City pickup truck between pump sites and on emergency calls, operates radio.

Additional Duties:

May collect samples and flush fire hydrants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a class "D" Level Wastewater Certificate of competency as mandated by TNRCC within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain class "C" Level Wastewater Certificate of competency within two years from date of hire. Must maintain class "C" level certification or better to remain in position.
  • Two years experience with pumps, motors, or electrical equipment or work at a processing plant.

  • All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency in accordance with the City of Kingsville Emergency Services Policy No. 12.14 effective July 9, 2001.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds; push, pull and/or drag up to 150 pounds of equipment and/or materials; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, stands, sits, and bends when driving or maintaining equipment; hear and see clearly when working around equipment or in traffic. Works outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with some exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards while using proper safety precautions.
