Description

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for maintaining all WaterOne machinery by performing mechanical maintenance and repairs on water treatment equipment, pumping equipment, and plumbing systems at all WaterOne facilities as directed.

Pay range for this position is $26.44/hr to $39.66/hr. Compensation for the selected candidate will depend on candidate qualifications and experience as related to the position requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Performs all repair and upkeep of mechanical equipment in WaterOne, excluding vehicle fleet.
  • Performs all scheduled lubrication and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment and electric motors in WaterOne, excluding vehicle fleet.
  • Assists with the installation of new mechanical equipment and rehabilitation of existing mechanical systems.
  • Assists with all major and minor maintenance on well pump equipment, elevated tanks, pump stations, pressure points, automatic valves, pressure regulating valves, hydraulically operated equipment, chemical feed equipment, pneumatic chemical conveying and transfer systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing all types of piping, including water, air, hydraulic and drain.
  • Responsible for the alignment of pumps, motors, and gearboxes.
  • Responsible for miscellaneous welding, cutting, and metals fabrication.
  • Works safely with liquid chlorine, gas chlorine, liquid oxygen, ozone, and ammonia.
  • All types of plumbing installation and repair.

Other Duties

  • Performs housekeeping duties at all pump stations throughout WaterOne.
  • Assists with all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements.
  • Perform other job duties assigned.

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of professional experience as a maintenance mechanic working with a variety of machinery or equipment.


Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of mechanical theory and practice.
  • Broad knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.
  • Experience with or the ability to learn and apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.
  • Knowledge of plumbing including PVC, copper, plastic, steel, and soldering.
  • Ability to work with liquid oxygen, ozone, chlorine systems, and other water treatment chemicals.
  • Understand equipment and structures unique to a water utility.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Broad knowledge of measuring devices such as micrometers, depth gauges, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Ability to climb water towers or other structures (safety equipment provided) when required.
  • Possess organizational skills and the ability to handle a wide variety of assignments.
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency with MS Office (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, and Word).
  • Ability to learn and use CMMS, such as SAP.
  • Communicate well in English both orally and in writing.
  • Works well within a team environment.
  • Reachable and available for emergency call-out, occasional overtime, and willing to be on-call.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable safety requirements, including, but not limited to, confined space entry, use of personal protective equipment, proper use of power and hand tools, and the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and continually meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards


Preferred Qualifications

  • Two year degree, or vocational school or technical training in mechanical maintenance or related field.
  • Six years of experience in a Maintenance Mechanic role at a company or utility with large equipment and complex processes including chemical treatment repair.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move 5 Ibs constantly, 10 Ibs frequently, 20 Ibs occasionally and 50 Ibs rarely. This position will frequently work in outdoor weather conditions. Frequently work inside and outside WaterOne facilities and structures. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat (above 90 degrees) in the summer and cold in the winter (below freezing). Some work may be in non-heated and non-air-conditioned structures. This position will occasionally perform field assignments in poor weather and driving conditions and deal with other hazards of field work. Occasionally work at varying heights up to 15 feet above the floor. Occasionally tolerate noise levels that are generally minimal but may be excessive for brief periods of time (hearing protection is provided). The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary, standing and/or sitting position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be able to occasionally position self to install, remove, or maintain equipment and other items. Ability to position self to kneel, crouch, push, pull, and turning, twisting, or rotating the torso. Ability to position self to help install inspect, remove or repair various items and move through elevators , stairways, ramps and rough terrain. Ability to position self to install, maintain, or service computer hardware and software and other related equipment. Ability to ascend and descend ladders to work on equipment, including climbing water towers and other structures and stand/work on elevated surfaces. Ability to tolerate operating vibrating equipment frequently and ability to detect leak sounds with and without amplification devices. Ability to wear PPE and navigate construction sites and wear/use air purifying and air supplied respiratory protection. Must possess specific vision abilities required for this job including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors, and ability to adjust focus.
