Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: “Protecting Water. Protecting People.”  We are seeking a 2nd Shift Production Supervisor to partner with our experienced production team in this environmentally focused industry.

A 2nd Shift Production Supervisor at Smith and Loveless is responsible for supervising and coordinating second-shift production to ensure high-quality, efficient manufacturing.  Shift hours are 4:00 pm to 12:30 am.

Job duties

  • Direct and supervise the operations of 2nd Shift employees in paint, blast, weld, and fabrication.  Delegate duties and provide follow-up and assistance for effective control.                                                                                         
  • Ensure efficient and timely processes of the Company product to meet the production schedules.
  • Ensure adherence to specifications/standards by properly directing and supervising work in progress.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and other internal departments to ensure proper interpretation of plans and specifications to provide proper fabrication functions and to troubleshoot problems as they occur.
  • Responsible for the proper administration of the Union Contract to ensure equitable and harmonious union management relations and handle step 1 grievances as needed.
  • Ensure safe work area and adherence to safe work practices by initiating corrective preventative measures.
  • Inspect all finished work to ensure they meet specifications before closing the job out.
  • Develop efficient production methods and suggest new or improved equipment to lower cost and enhance product operating efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned by Plant Superintendent.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.

Skills/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5 years in a supervisory capacity in a manufacturing/production operation
  • Must be able to effectively supervise hourly union employees.
  • Ability to establish priorities, delegate duties, and read and understand blueprints.
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude, knowledge of Windows based PC, basic math skills including geometry and conflict resolution skills.                                                                                                            
  • Foreman/Production Supervisors are expected to show up an hour before the shift to prepare.  Overtime may be required as necessary.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the role include the ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.
  • Ability to ascend and descend two (2) flights of stairs and climb up/down ladders.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Requires standing 85% of the day with frequent walking to all areas in the factory.
