Job description

Nature of Work HIRING RANGE IS: $25.21 TO $29 PER HOUR This position involves routine fieldwork reading utility meters and accurately recording customer water usage. Responsibilities include maintaining detailed records in accordance with established procedures to ensure accurate customer billing. Employees typically follow assigned routes independently, receiving general work instructions while referring unusual situations or issues to a supervisor

Duties and Responsibilities (This description outlines the primary duties of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities or tasks that may be assigned.) Walks or drives an assigned meter route; reads and/or rereads residential and commercial water meters; distributes shut-off notices

Records meter readings in the prescribed manner according to meter location. Notes readings that appear inconsistent (high or low) with prior readings; informs supervisor by prescribed means. Reports meters that are damaged or malfunctioning to supervisor by prescribed means.

Performs repairs to meters and meter setters in pits and vaults ; tags meters for turn-off; performs turn-offs and turn-ons when assigned. Listens to and attempts to resolve customer complaints; refers difficult complaints to supervisor. Trains staff on meter reading and meter installation.

Replace broken, damaged, or outdated meters to include read units. Troubleshoot water leaks. Assist with Distribution and Collection team with service line leaks and main breaks and any other emergency situations.

Make recommendations on new meter equipment, parts, tools, software and reading systems. Create a meter related or usage reports as requested. Consult with contractors on meter equipment.

Education and Experience High school diploma or GED and six months of meter reading experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications: Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with clean driving record. Skills: Distribution Class II, State License or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Knowledge of City of Northglenn streets, routes, and geographic areas. Applies advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in field conditions. Ability to maintain clear and accurate written records.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations quickly and accurately. Effectively communicates and collaborates with the team, city staff, outside vendors and other personnel. Supplemental Information Work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requires bending, kneeling, standing, walking for long periods. Ability to work in confined spaces and hazardous environments must be performed using required PPE as outlined in Job Safety Analyses (JSAs). Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position.

Must be available for emergency call-outs, standby/on-call rotation is required. This position may be assigned other duties consistent with the job classification
