Role description:
Arcadis is searching for a Project Water Engineer to support and grow our Water team in Rochester, NY with a focus on drinking water planning, design, and construction. In this position you will utilize your expertise and technical knowledge to develop, lead and support projects from start to finish. As part of the team, you will have a proven reputation with clients as a professional and dynamic engineer that communicates clearly and effectively and successfully executes important projects in our community. This is an outstanding opportunity that requires an individual with the ability to both lead and partner while working collaboratively on a wide variety of projects at a variety of scales, in a 'hands-on' role with an expectation of also supporting client development activities for municipal, state, federal and private sector clients. A key component of this position is the desire to mentor and grow with a dynamic and talented team of engineers in the upstate NY area.
Role accountabilities:
As a Project Water Engineer you will collaborate with local and national teams for successful planning, funding assistance, preliminary and final design, and construction of water treatment plants, distribution systems, and pump stations as well as creating construction documents, specifications, and providing engineering services during construction. This role will also have a focus on lead and copper related projects from compliance planning through design and construction. Additional duties include:
  • Lead preparation of detailed engineering calculations & analysis
  • Complete design tasks within budget and on schedule
  • Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates and other project documentation
  • Support the work of others and mentor junior-level engineers & design/drafting technical staff
  • Work directly, when assigned, with clients to determine needs and provide solutions
  • Maintain compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality and safety standards
  • Travel may be required for site visits, client meetings, or construction oversight based on project needs.

Qualifications & Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical engineering skills in the drinking water practice area along with strong, clear, and concise written and oral communication abilities. Exceptional technical writing skills are essential, as is experience in preparing and reviewing project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. Client relationship skills are highly valued. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in developing innovative project implementation solutions and have experience in growing and developing teams, including mentoring staff. Collaborative problem solving and a design to work with diverse teams to solve complex problems is critical for success in this role.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering with focus on drinking water
  • Experience in design or consulting engineering or Municipal work environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related field of study

Preferred Skills:
  • NY PE license or ability to obtain one via reciprocity shortly after joining Arcadis

  • 10 years of relevant water/wastewater experience.
  • Project leadership experience including managing overall project delivery expectations, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
  • Client management experience, including preparation and development of proposals and client relationship building.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional association(s).
