Job description

JOB SUMMARY:


The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of job site management including staffing, scheduling, and business partner/subcontractor relations. They will oversee the project throughout its lifecycle from award to completion and will professionally represent JHL and effectively support Company strategic initiative as well as foster positive long-term relationships with all business partners ownership, design professionals, and subcontractors. The Superintendent is responsible for the quality and on-time delivery of the project while maintaining safety and budget.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:


Core Duties / Responsibilities:

  • The Superintendent provides overall supervision and support to JHL jobsite, subcontractors, and field staff to ensure high quality and timely delivery of the project
  • Experience in water/wastewater systems, with emphasis on water and/or wastewater treatment systems, process/treatment design, pumping systems, water reuse, water supply and storage systems.
  • Manage water/wastewater constructability, scheduling and construction service projects from conceptual phase through construction
  • Coordinate Subcontractors in schedule development to facilitate accurate planning
  • Host and/or attend all trade pre-construction, on-site subcontractor and coordination meetings
  • The Superintendent leads, implements and enforces jobsite safety requirements and JHL Quality Assurance Program
  • Responsible for all jobsite documentation ensuring that legal documents are prepared, distributed, and filed for record keeping
    • Daily Reports, Look-Ahead Schedules, Quality Control Checklists and Inspections, Safety Program Compliance and Weekly Inspections, Storm Water Compliance – Weekly and Post Event Inspections, Photo documentation of progress
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of an accurate and up to date set of working red-lined/as-built contract documents available to all on-site personnel
  • Manage all JHL on-site field staff – supervision as well as hourly craft and labor
    • Coordinate and manage tasks with consideration to hours and budget.
    • Conduct reviews as directed by the Director of Field Operations or General Superintendents
    • Update manpower and equipment needs with as much advanced notice as is practical
  • Responsible for the professional setup and maintenance of the jobsite

  • The Superintendent has direct authority over on-site JHL field staff
  • The Superintendent will coordinate with PMs on specific individual project critical decisions and work that is not contracted for
  • The Superintendent will coordinate with Subcontractors on all contracted work


Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, Construction Management
    • Alternative Education: trade school, pipe fitter, welder etc.
  • 5+ years of related experience in water / waste water
  • Relevant project experience self-performing or managing the installation of process mechanical piping and equipment while controlling hours, productivity, quality and safety
  • Oversight of construction of water/wastewater storage, water/wastewater treatment, large diameter water transmission & distribution, water/wastewater pumping, water collection, source of supply, sanitary utilities, lift stations, storm drainage systems, storm water detention, and utility rehabilitation & replacement
  • Experience in simple vertical construction: excavations, concrete, CMU, structural steel, brick veneer, hollow metal doors and windows, metal decking, equipment pads, HVAC, electrical, I&C.
  • Must be safety oriented: OSHA-10, OSHA-30 minimum; confined space competent person, trenching and excavation competent person preferred
  • Familiarity with terms and conditions of Project Contracts, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders
  • Thorough understanding of wastewater and/or water treatment plant operations and construction logistics for process equipment installation, mechanical piping, yard piping, and concrete scopes of work
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exhibits strong leadership qualities, ability to lead project team, subcontractors and self-perform craft labor
  • Strong decision making/problem solving skills, self-reliant, self-starter
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, ASTA Powerproject
  • Technical expert in all relevant areas of design and understanding of various design schedules
  • Can develop construction CPM schedules in ASTA Powerproject
  • Excellent plan reading and specification interpretation skills
  • Proficient with building/estimating techniques
