Job description


Join a respected and rapidly expanding auction house and play a key role in the continued growth of its specialist Watches & Timepieces division.

We are seeking an experienced Watch Specialist with an established knowledge of the international watch market and the commercial ability to identify and secure exceptional consignments.

Working with private collectors, dealers, retailers and industry contacts, you will source important antique, vintage and contemporary timepieces for auction, while developing long-term relationships with both existing and prospective clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established watch specialist or dealer who combines technical expertise with strong commercial instincts, outstanding relationship-building skills and a genuine passion for exceptional timepieces.


Responsibilities

Identify and secure high-quality consignments of antique pocket watches, vintage wristwatches and high-end modern timepieces

Develop new business through relationships with private collectors, watch dealers, retailers and other industry contacts

Build and maintain a strong network of collectors and potential consignors

Evaluate prospective consignments and oversee the assessment of condition, provenance and authenticity

Provide specialist market knowledge and advice on individual watches and collections

Negotiate commercial terms with consignors and manage relationships throughout the consignment and auction process

Produce and review accurate, engaging catalogue descriptions and associated marketing content

Work closely with marketing and client teams to promote important consignments to relevant collectors and buyers

Proactively market significant watches and collections to established and prospective clients

Review client settlements and payment documentation where required

Attend watch fairs, trade shows, conventions, collector events and other industry gatherings to generate new business and develop strategic relationships

Remain informed about market trends, collector demand, auction performance and developments across the international luxury watch market

Contribute to the continued growth, reputation and commercial success of the watch department.


Required experience

A minimum of five years’ professional experience within the watch industry, gained with an established watch dealer, auction house, specialist retailer or comparable organisation

Strong knowledge of vintage, collectible and high-value modern watches

A good understanding of leading manufacturers, models, movements, market values and collector trends

Proven experience sourcing watches or developing relationships with collectors, dealers and other industry contacts

Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to negotiate with sophisticated clients

A highly professional, client-focused approach

Competence with Microsoft Word and Excel
