Role description:

The Wastewater Treatment Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards. This role will involve maintenance and inspection activities to guarantee the delivery of safe drinking water, effective sewage conveyance, and system readiness for fire protection. Additionally, the operator will support capital upgrades and gain exposure to Arcadis service lines and client businesses while developing technical skills. 

Role Accountabilities 

  • Operator will act as an Operator in Charge (OIC) when required, adhering to Ontario Regulation 319/08. They will operate and maintain water/wastewater sites, perform manual fieldwork, monitor and maintain equipment, and make necessary operational adjustments. 
  • Serve as a project resource, supporting successful project delivery individually or as part of a team, identifying information sources, and collecting relevant data.  
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, manage hazardous waste, collect samples, assist with regulatory compliance, and analyze data for design solutions. Prepare project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports to ensure compliance with standards, will also be a key responsibility. 
  • Oversee subcontractors, lead Health & Safety programs, assume limited construction manager responsibilities, and act as a working supervisor or foreman.  
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to align work with budgets and requirements will be crucial, as will increasing involvement with clients and potentially overseeing projects for Arcadis or clients. 
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge of Arcadis services, review legislation, assist with policy development, and comply with health and safety requirements, promoting a safe work environment.  
  • Develop skills in specialist areas, project management, relationship management, and commercial skills will be important. 

The role will require obtaining and maintaining Class 2 licenses for Wastewater Treatment, along with participating in rotational oncall duties and working overtime when necessary. The operator should bring intermediate customer service skills and experience in water/wastewater operations and maintenance planning, supported by a Wastewater Treatment Level 2 certification. 

The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds, hold a valid Driver's License, and be capable of obtaining a CMV Driver's License. Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills are essential, as is intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Proficiency with hand and power tools, along with the ability to read blueprints, drawings, and GIS maps, will be important for success in this role. 

Qualifications & Experience 

Required Qualifications 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with 4-5 years or more years of relevant experience with 8 years being preferred 
  • Class 1 or 2 License in Water Treatment,, Wastewater Distribution/Supply, Wastewater Treatment.   
  • A Class G driver's license and access to a vehicle. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Intermediate knowledge of Water/Wastewater Regulations, Acts, and Standards, as well as relevant vocational qualifications like CTECH, is preferred. 
  • An environmental technologist certification and possess advanced research, data gathering, and analysis skills, along with advanced proficiency in desktop applications, is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $64,800-97,200. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
