Job description

Description:Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of a licensed Chief Plant Operator, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of wastewater treatment facilities, collection systems, and associated pumping stations. The operator assists in maintaining regulatory compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations while ensuring reliable operation of treatment processes, equipment, and infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain wastewater treatment facilities.

· Monitor treatment processes and make operational adjustments as directed.

· Collect wastewater samples and perform laboratory testing.

· Maintain operational logs and regulatory records.

· Inspect and maintain lift stations, pumps, valves, and sewer collection systems.

· Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of sewer mains and service connections.

· Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment.

· Respond to emergencies, sewer overflows, alarms, and equipment failures.

· Participate in rotating on-call, weekend, and holiday coverage.

· Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, State Water Resources Control Board, Regional Water Quality Control Board, and local permit requirements.

· Maintain communication with the Chief Plant Operator and recommend operational improvements.

Requirements:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, collection systems, pumps, and lift stations.

· Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance.

· Ability to maintain accurate records and operate basic computer and SCADA systems.

· Ability to work independently and safely in confined spaces and outdoor environments.

Physical Requirements

· Lift up to 75 pounds.

· Climb ladders and stairs, work in confined spaces, and perform manual labor outdoors.

· Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
