Job description

The Opportunity
Join Tetra Tech's Jacksonville team as a Water/Wastewater EIT or PE supporting the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure projects. In this role, you'll work on utility conveyance systems, including water mains, gravity sewers, force mains, and reclaimed water pipelines, while also gaining experience with pump stations and water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Position Summary
Tetra Tech is seeking a Water/Wastewater EIT or PE with 2-8 years of experience to join our Jacksonville office. This position supports the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure projects. The primary focus will be on utility conveyance systems, including water distribution, gravity sewer, force main, and reclaimed water pipeline projects, with opportunities to contribute to pump station and treatment facility improvements.
Essential Functions
  • Assist with the planning and design of municipal water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support the design of water distribution systems, gravity sewers, force mains, reclaimed water pipelines, and related utility infrastructure.
  • Support the design of pump stations and water and wastewater treatment facility improvements.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Assist with permitting and coordination with local agencies and utility owners.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observation as needed.
  • Support project documentation, quality control reviews, and engineering deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training certification.
  • Familiarity with the engineering design process, including planning, permitting, preparation of construction documents, cost estimating, and construction support.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of civil engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with municipal water, wastewater, reclaimed water, or utility infrastructure projects preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer while performing engineering design, analysis, and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, virtually, and by telephone.
  • Occasional walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, and lifting or carrying materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to visit project sites, pump stations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and construction sites, which may require traversing uneven terrain, navigating active work zones, climbing ladders or stairs, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment / Environmental Factors
  • Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment, with hybrid work flexibility available based on business needs.
  • Periodic travel to client offices, project sites, pump stations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and active construction sites is required.
  • Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, odors, vibrations, moving mechanical equipment, confined or restricted access areas, and other conditions commonly associated with municipal utility and construction environments.
  • Employees are required to comply with all applicable safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting operational facilities or construction sites.
