Job description

The Solid Waste/Animal Control Officer performs inspections and public contact duties enforcing codes and ordinances relating to solid waste and environmental issues and coordinates with other county departments and partner organizations to ensure enforcement of all state and county laws, ordinances and resolutions relating to the care, custody and control of domesticated animals. Examples of Duties Receives, investigates, issues penalties, and documents complaints of solid waste violations Researches property ownership to address violations Ensures illegal dump sites are cleaned Maintains detailed case records (photos, reports, electronic and paper files) using Works software Provides customer service by answering questions and explaining solid waste requirements, violations, and penalties Coordinates enforcement efforts with other county departments and partner organizations Participates in outreach and special events to prevent illegal dumping, promote recycling, and educate the community Serves as program advisor to residents and businesses regarding recycling and solid waste compliance Investigates animal-related complaints Responds to and documents animal bites Captures and transports stray or dangerous animals using humane methods Arranges and promotes annual rabies clinics Participates in public outreach Prepares reports, maintains logs, and other required documentation Performs other related duties as assigned Typical Qualifications Graduation from high school and two years as an Animal Control Officer Or, an equivalent combination of training and experience.
