What is a warehouse job?

Warehouse jobs involve tasks related to the storage, organization, and distribution of goods within a warehouse facility. Common responsibilities include receiving and processing incoming stock, picking and filling orders, packing and shipping items, and maintaining inventory records. These roles often require physical activity such as lifting, operating machinery, and working on your feet for extended periods. Warehouse positions can range from entry-level roles like warehouse associates to specialized jobs such as forklift operators or inventory managers.

What are different warehouse jobs?

Warehouse jobs include positions in inventory, logistics, distribution planning, and transportation. Inventory specialists, for example, assess warehouse supplies and source more goods or products when needed. Logistics, inventory, and business specialists may evaluate activities to increase profit and efficiency, while the responsibilities of management primarily involve overseeing operations. Employees in a warehouse operations center may process orders, plan shipping and logistics, and ensure that daily activities run smoothly. Warehouse workers, or laborers, might carry stock from trucks to storage areas. Large warehouses often employ shift workers who operate at different times of the day.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a warehouse worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Warehouse Worker, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, basic math skills, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory scanners, and forklift certification are commonly required. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, and reliability help individuals excel in this role. These skills and qualifications are essential for maintaining efficient operations, ensuring safety, and achieving accurate order fulfillment.

What are some common challenges faced by warehouse workers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Warehouse workers often encounter challenges such as managing time efficiently during busy periods, maintaining accuracy when picking and packing orders, and adhering to strict safety protocols. To manage these challenges, many warehouses provide thorough training, use technology like inventory management systems, and encourage teamwork to distribute workloads evenly. Open communication with supervisors and regular safety briefings also help create a supportive environment and minimize errors or accidents.

Adecco is hiring for a Warehouse Associate role. Overview / Summary

The Warehouse Associate performs the hands-on, day-to-day warehouse work that keeps Screen Innovations’ operations moving — receiving, devanning, boxing, packing, loading, and preparing orders for shipment across all product lines. Working on-site in a warehouse environment, the Warehouse Associate handles goods safely, accurately, and efficiently to support on-time fulfillment for both screen and shade product lines.
This is a hands-on role reporting to the Warehouse and Inventory Manager. Warehouse Associates work across all product lines — both screens and window shades — and support the broader logistics and warehouse team in meeting daily production and shipping demands.

Key ResponsibilitiesWarehouse Operations
  • Devan inbound containers: Safely and efficiently unload (devan) incoming shipping containers, and inspect and stage goods for receipt.

  • Receive and inspect goods: Receive and inspect incoming goods and verify them against accompanying documentation.

  • Box and package orders: Box, pack, label, and palletize finished goods and orders for shipment.

  • Pick and prepare orders: Pick, stage, and prepare orders accurately for outbound shipment.

  • Load and unload: Load and unload trailers, containers, and delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.

  • Move and store materials: Move and put away materials and finished goods using pallet jacks, forklifts (as applicable), and other equipment.

  • Maintain work areas: Keep work areas clean, organized, and operationally efficient, following 5S and housekeeping standards.

  • Support all product lines: Responsibilities extend to all product lines, including both screens and window shades.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Follow safe practices: Follow safe material handling, loading, unloading, and warehouse practices.

  • Maintain quality standards: Assist in maintaining operational quality standards.

  • Communicate concerns: Identify and communicate safety concerns, damage, and issues to the appropriate lead or manager.

  • Support audits: Support audits, inspections, and operational compliance initiatives as required.

General Duties
  • Suggest improvements: Identify and suggest opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and safety.

  • Additional responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a warehouse environment.

  • Ability to perform hands-on warehouse tasks, including boxing, loading, and devanning, across all product lines.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling and documentation.

  • Ability to follow instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.

  • Reliability and commitment to a consistent, fully on-site schedule.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification (the company can provide training for qualified candidates).

  • Experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or production warehouse environment.

  • Prior experience using RF scanners or warehouse or ERP systems.

  • Familiarity with 5S or continuous improvement practices.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing and warehouse environment throughout the full shift, including standing and being on your feet for extended periods consistent with warehouse and manufacturing industry standards.

  • Ability to move throughout the warehouse and production floor as required by daily operational and coordination activities.

  • Ability to lift and handle materials as needed within the warehouse environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly.

  • Ability to perform the physical demands of warehouse work, such as loading and unloading trailers, containers, and delivery vehicles, and repetitive bending, reaching, lifting, and moving goods.

  • Work Environment: Work takes place on-site in a warehouse environment.

  • Current Schedule: Full-time, 100% on-site, Monday through Friday, standard daytime hours.

  • Schedule Flexibility: Hours may adjust based on production and business needs but will remain within standard daytime plant operating hours, Monday through Friday. This role does not require evening, overnight, or weekend shifts.

  • NetSuite ERP — for order management, shipment processing, and logistics coordination (prior experience a plus; training provided).

  • RF scanners (radio-frequency handheld scanners) — for receiving, tracking, and supporting warehouse operations.

  • Warehouse management and shipping software — for tracking material movement and outbound shipments.

  • Standard documentation and reporting tools — for scheduling, order records, and management reporting.

Core Competencies
  • Logistics & Warehouse Operations: Strong working knowledge of logistics, warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution operations.

  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve processes and supports continuous improvement.

  • Attention to Detail: Maintains accuracy and quality across documentation, orders, and operational tasks.
