Job description

Purpose
Under the direction of the DC Manager, the Outbound Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and supervising all warehouse activities of an assigned work team on a multi-shift basis by directing assigned Supervisors and Team Members in the areas of outbound operations, maintaining dispatch schedules, order selection and management of product integrity and shipment accuracy. In addition, the Outbound Operations Manager is responsible for all Sanitation and Facilities processes. Lead and direct Team Members in the areas of selection accuracy, safety, productivity, sanitation, customer service, and food safety. Promote positive Team Member relations. Ensure proper implementation of company rules and policies. Drive all operations in a manner consistent with service and cost objectives. Meet or exceed all Smart Goals as assigned by the DC Manager.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for Outbound Shipment Operations and staffing. Meet all delivery departure dates and times, Drive the budget line of overtime, wages and shrink.
  • Manage communication when problems occur. Responsible for the cross communication between shifts, departments, customers, and vendors when necessary.
  • Participate in a secondary leadership role in the Food Safety Committee. Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly warehouse.
  • Follow all SOP's ensuring proper food safety practices are maintained at all times.
  • Utilizing the LABOR TOOL, oversee all outbound staffing needs to successfully adhere to departure schedules & timely delivery of product to the stores and distribution network in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure all outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
  • Manage and coordinate the most efficient loading of outbound shipments, orderly pallet building, and securing of products in accordance with the highest possible levels of outbound trailer quality, while maintaining cost effective staffing models.
  • Ensure all security policies and procedures are followed.
  • Maintain the efficient and safe operation of all material handling equipment.
  • Ensure Team Members follow all safety policies and procedures. Thoroughly investigate and report all safety accidents and violations in a timely manner. Conduct operations in accordance with OSHA, Food Safety and MSDS Standards
  • Manage productivity of Selectors, Forklift, and other functions within the department.
  • Manage new hires and Team Members in progression, coaching, mentoring and consistently training in a constructive and educational manner to develop them for success.
  • Direct the operations of the assigned shift to achieve prescribed objectives. Drive all operations in a manner consistent with service and cost objectives.
  • Conduct shift meetings. Conduct staff meetings to relay general information or to address specific topics, such as safety.
  • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads. Anticipate variances in staff and workload.
  • Prepare and maintain work records and reports of information such as employee time and wages, daily shipments, and/or productivity results.
  • Collaborate with Team Members, Supervisors and Managers to solve work-related problems.
  • Evaluate Team Member performance and prepare performance appraisals.
  • Counsel Team Members in work-related activities, personal growth, or career development.
  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary measures. Be visible and accessible on the warehouse floor.
  • Assess training needs of Team Members and arrange for or provide appropriate instruction.
  • Schedule and instruct staff on SOP process and expectation.
  • Resolve personnel problems, complaints, or grievances when possible, or refer them to higher-level Managers for resolution.
  • Other duties as requested.

About You
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience in a high-volume material handling business.
  • Previous experience in food distribution production environment preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a multi-task environment.
  • Good organizational skills: with ability to manage multiple projects with high level of attention to detail.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to bend twist, kneel, squat, turn, reach, push, balance and lift objects up to eighty-five pounds, in a fast-paced environment for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to transport various objects weighing 20-85 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand and balance throughout the shift while operating industrial equipment.
  • Regularly works in a warehouse environment with head and cold, including freezers, coolers, and refrigerators in temperatures as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit.
