  • Base Pay $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 / Year
  • Job Category Warehouse Management, Operations Manager, Distribution & Logistics
  • Industry Wholesale and Retail
  • Employee Type Exempt Full Time

Run the engine behind a high-volume distribution business. We're looking for a hands-on Warehouse Manager who can lead people, improve systems, and keep product moving with speed and accuracy from the moment it arrives to the moment it leaves our docks. In this role, you'll own the full flow of a modern 100,000-square-foot warehouse, balancing strategy, layout, performance, and process improvement with the willingness to roll up your sleeves during peak season and help your team move more than 250,000 packages every year.

About us

Weโ€™re a family-owned and operated distributor that has been serving the meat processing industry for 40 years. We ship approximately 250,000 packages a year across the United States from our 100,000 square foot facility in Bel Aire, KS. With a team of 55-65 people (a bit larger in peak season), weโ€™re small enough that one person can truly shape how the warehouse runs - and youโ€™ll report directly to the VP of Operations and Co-Owner. The warehouse crew of 8โ€“14 is the engine of the business. This role owns everything between a product arriving and a package leaving.

Our one-year-old facility is modern, clean, and efficient, with up-to-date equipment, systems, and processes. We also run a custom-built warehouse management system designed and maintained by our two in-house developers. This gives us the rare ability to shape software exactly around our processes, and the Warehouse Manager is a key partner in that planning and design work.

The opportunity

This is not a pure desk job and not a pure floor job. For most of the year youโ€™ll lead from the office: designing better layouts and pick paths, managing inventory and systems, scheduling the team, tracking the numbers that matter, and continuously improving how we work. During our busiest 4 months youโ€™ll be frequently on the floor alongside the team, receiving, picking, packing, and shipping, leading by example when volume is highest. The right person thrives in both modes and takes real pride in a clean, accurate, high-performing operation.

What youโ€™ll ownShipping, receiving & flow
  • Own daily shipping, receiving, and distribution operations, and jump in on the floor whenever the workload demands it
  • Design and continuously improve warehouse layout, storage, pick paths, and product placement so orders move quickly with minimal wasted motion
  • Plan and execute seasonal scaling of staffing, space, and capacity so we never miss a beat
People & team
  • Schedule, lead, and develop a team of 8-14 (seasonally adjusted)
  • Train team members to receive, pick, pack, and ship accurately and safely
  • Build a culture of dependability, safety-first thinking, and pride in the work
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts across all products
  • Own inbound and outbound quality, catch errors, fix root causes, and put processes in place so they stop recurring
  • Track and drive the metrics that matter (throughput, accuracy, on-time shipping, and more)
Safety, housekeeping, continuous improvement & systems
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment and hold the team to the same standard
  • Inspect and maintain equipment (forklifts, lifts, stackers, and tools) on a regular schedule
  • Identify and implement smarter ways of working, including process changes and automation opportunities that improve speed, accuracy, or cost
  • Partner with our two in-house developers to design, prioritize, and refine our custom WMS and related tools so the technology fits our exact warehouse processes and continuously improves speed, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Help set and hold warehouse standards and KPIs, and operate within budget

Requirements

What you bring (required)
  • Proven experience supervising or leading a warehouse, distribution, or shipping team
  • Comfort with modern warehouse technology and a collaborative approach to systems. We use Acumatica ERP, a custom in-house WMS (which you will help shape with our developers), shipping carrier portals (FedEx, USPS, and LTL/FTL freight), plus everyday tools like email, spreadsheets, and file sharing. Experience providing operational input for software or process improvements is a strong plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the judgment to fix root causes rather than just symptoms
  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Organized, dependable, and self-motivated, with the ability to set direction and hold a team to it
  • A working understanding of warehousing and distribution best practices and how the warehouse connects to the rest of the business
Nice to have (preferred, not required)
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to certify)
  • Experience developing KPIs and operating standards for a warehouse
  • Experience building or managing a budget
  • Exposure to warehouse automation or continuous-improvement methods
  • Hands-on familiarity with FedEx, USPS, and freight (LTL/FTL) systems, rates, and charges
Physical requirements & working conditions

This role has essential physical demands. With or without reasonable accommodation, you should be able to:

  • Stand, walk, and stay active on the warehouse floor for extended periods
  • Routinely lift and move boxes up to 50 lb
  • Safely operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, lifts, stackers, etc.)
  • Work in a warehouse environment that may include seasonal temperature variation and typical warehouse noise

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.

Summary

What we offer
  • Genuine ownership of the end-to-end warehouse operation in a mid-size company
  • High visibility and direct reporting relationship to the VP of Operations / Co-Owner
  • A real mix of strategic planning and hands-on leadership
  • Opportunity to redesign processes, layout, and shape our custom software with in-house developers
  • Lean environment where your decisions and leadership have an outsized impact
  • Base salary in the range of $75,000 to $95,000, depending on experience
  • Performance bonus available, $5,000 to $10,000 based on company results
  • Competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and flexible spending accounts, subject to eligibility requirements and plan terms.
  • Paid time off earned on an accrual basis.

If youโ€™re a warehouse leader who wants real ownership, enjoys both the planning and the floor, and takes pride in running a tight, accurate operation, and who wants a real voice in how the software that runs the warehouse is designed, weโ€™d love to hear from you.
