What is a warehouse location?

Warehouse locations refer to specific areas within a warehouse where inventory is stored. These locations are usually identified by a combination of letters and numbers to help staff efficiently find, store, and manage products. Properly organized warehouse locations are essential for accurate inventory control, quick order fulfillment, and minimizing errors. They can include aisles, racks, shelves, or bins, and are often managed using warehouse management systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a warehouse location specialist?

To thrive as a Warehouse Location Specialist, you need strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and familiarity with inventory management, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and basic logistics software is typically required. Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help you navigate daily operations and adapt to shifting priorities. These competencies ensure efficient inventory control, accurate order fulfillment, and smooth warehouse operations.

What are some common challenges faced in a warehouse location role and how can they be managed?

In a Warehouse Location role, common challenges include maintaining accurate inventory records, quickly locating items in a large facility, and adapting to fast-paced changes in order volume. These challenges can be managed by using warehouse management systems (WMS), following standardized labeling and organization processes, and participating in regular training to stay updated on best practices. Collaboration with team members and clear communication with supervisors also help ensure smooth operations and effective problem solving.

We are built by people who care and committed to working together toward a shared purpose: One Team. One Goal.

Position Summary

Texas Tissue Converting is seeking an experienced Warehouse Manager to lead all warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, material movement, shipping, and distribution.

This position is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, optimizing warehouse layout and material flow, administering WMS and ERP processes, and ensuring customer orders are shipped safely, accurately, and on time. The Warehouse Manager will also lead warehouse employees, enforce safety and productivity standards, and drive continuous improvement throughout the operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct daily receiving, put-away, storage, replenishment, staging, picking, loading, shipping, and distribution activities.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, packaging supplies, work-in-process materials, and finished goods.
  • Develop and manage cycle-counting and physical-inventory programs.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Establish and enforce FIFO, FEFO, lot-control, and product-rotation procedures.
  • Serve as the operational subject-matter expert for warehouse functions within the WMS and ERP systems.
  • Ensure receipts, transfers, picks, adjustments, returns, and shipments are recorded accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor WMS and ERP exceptions, including negative inventory, incorrect locations, duplicate transactions, and unconfirmed movements.
  • Design and continuously improve warehouse layouts, location maps, slotting strategies, staging areas, pedestrian pathways, and material flow.
  • Maximize warehouse capacity, space utilization, location accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee inbound and outbound shipments, carrier appointments, dock schedules, freight activity, and shipping documentation.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, coach, and develop warehouse employees.
  • Establish expectations for safety, attendance, productivity, quality, inventory accuracy, and workplace conduct.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, forklift safety standards, and other applicable regulations.
  • Lead 5S, Lean Manufacturing, visual-management, waste-reduction, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and report warehouse KPIs, including safety, inventory accuracy, cycle-count completion, shipment accuracy, on-time delivery, FIFO compliance, and space utilization.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 10 years of warehouse, distribution, inventory, or logistics experience.
  • At least five years of supervisory or management experience leading warehouse teams.
  • Strong experience with inventory control, cycle counting, physical inventories, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Experience managing FIFO, FEFO, lot traceability, and inventory-rotation requirements.
  • Working knowledge of WMS and ERP systems.
  • Experience with warehouse layout, storage planning, location management, and inventory slotting.
  • Experience with shipping, receiving, freight coordination, carrier management, and order fulfillment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements, powered industrial equipment, and warehouse safety practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and operational reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and employee-development skills.
  • Ability to work extended or nontraditional hours when operational needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, operations management, or a related field.
  • Experience in paper converting, consumer products, food-grade manufacturing, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing, upgrading, or optimizing a WMS or ERP system.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or 5S experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, FSC, PEFC, food-safety, or customer-audit requirements.
  • Current forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification after hire.
Work Environment

This position works in an active warehouse and manufacturing environment and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and movement throughout the facility. The employee must be able to work safely around forklifts, machinery, moving equipment, noise, dust, temperature changes, and other industrial conditions.
