Job description

Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Saturday; varied hours

This position is responsible for:

Plans, supervises, monitors, evaluates, and participates in the day-to-day activities of multiple Thrift Stores which include staffing, facilities, and processes related to donation intake; donation processing, donation pricing, donation presentation for final sale, and point of sale; plans, supervises, monitors, participates in, and evaluates work of all Thrift Store personnel ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures as well as budget constraints; schedules staff, employees, and volunteers to ensure all Family Store functions are adequately covered during all operational periods for the primary purpose of generating significant weekly, monthly, and annual profits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, participates in, and supervises the work of subordinate personnel and volunteers; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides salary and hiring/firing recommendations.
  • Supervises and monitors cashier activities to ensure the accountability of cash register monies; supervises the preparation of sales records, sales reports and bank deposits.
  • Directs subordinate staff in the layout and display of store merchandise; ensures stock is routinely rotated and prices encourage the desired level of stock turnover; plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of displays for special promotions or seasons; ensures the store is maintained in a neat, inviting, and orderly manner.
  • Supervises and monitors the receiving, sorting, pricing, and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and/or performs all banking and financial reporting; prepares and maintains a variety of Thrift Store sales reports, records, logs, etc.; ensures the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the same.
  • Drives to multiple locations to oversee store responsibilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to manage the operations of a profit-producing facility with multiple locations.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete bookkeeping records.
  • Ability to monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with budget constraints.
  • Ability to evaluate overall store operations in order to detect deficiencies and implement appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to price donated merchandise reasonably and fairly.
  • Ability to develop new procedures to enhance store and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.
