Job description

Chicago Steel seeks a Packager for its Gary, IN facility. The Packager will assemble skids to the exact measurement requested by the client for their finished product. They will wrap and put the finished product into boxes, creating labels.

There are opportunities for wage growth and career development. Any relevant steel experience is preferred, but not required.  We are looking for a detail-oriented candidate that is eager to learn and grow in this fast-paced environment.  We strive to build strong relationships with our customers by providing high levels of service, and value-added opportunities, and professionalism during all interactions which allows us to become a valued member of their supply chain and production teams. 

The Packager will be assembling skids to the exact measurement requested by the client for their finished product. They will wrap and put the finished product into boxes, creating labels.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate banding head for slit coils
  • Ensure secure/proper packaging
  • Utilize equipment safely and efficiently
  • Forklift operation
  • Clean scrap from aisles

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of steel banding and shop experience preferred
  • High school diploma or GED
  • General reading and computer skills (MS Office Suite, ERP, etc.)
  • Experience in steel warehousing with defects common to steel
  • Ability to read and use a measuring tape
  • Strong organizational skills.
