Job description

Position Summary

Director, RWE Lead Research Scientist at Walmart Healthcare Research Institute (WHRI). The role leads the development of studies and clinical epidemiologic outcomes research in a Fortune 1 environment to increase access to healthcare.

What you’ll do
  • Epidemiological Outcomes Research: Deliver strategic input, epidemiological support, and leadership to evidence generation within late-stage pharmaceutical development.
  • Clinical Design: Provide innovative thinking for the design of clinical and epidemiological outcomes research programs and commercialization opportunities.
  • Develop and Implement RWE Standards: Set standards for the utilization of real-world evidence and provide methodological leadership to real-world evidence strategies.
  • Research Insights: Translate complex data into meaningful insights that deliver business value.
  • Develop and Implement Strategies: Use epidemiological expertise to provide strategic guidance to the Walmart Healthcare Research Team and Walmart Health and Wellness.
About the Team

The team operates at the intersection of healthcare and retail, focusing on developing groundbreaking research operations and integrating clinical research into Walmart’s ecosystem to enhance healthcare outcomes and support Walmart Health & Wellness strategic direction.

What you’ll bring
  • Deep epidemiology and RWE experience, including designing and executing RWE studies.
  • Relationship management skills in building and maintaining high-level internal and external relationships with pharmaceutical sponsors and clinical research organizations (CROs).
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills for extracting insights from real-world data through statistical analysis, summarization, visualization, and presentation.
  • Stakeholder management: collaborative spirit to effectively partner within Walmart’s ecosystem of product, data, and technology product managers.
Benefits and Compensation

Salary range: $160,000.00–$320,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and potential stock options. Health benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage. 401(k) with company match. Paid time off (PTO) and additional leave options. Live Better U education benefit for full‑time and part‑time associates.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, outcome research, or related area.
  • Prior work experience in clinical and commercial drug development processes.
  • Prior work experience in the pharmaceutical industry or closely related academic epidemiological/outcomes research.
  • Prior work experience with secondary data.
  • Prior experience in epidemiological/outcomes research design, execution, and publication relevant to drug safety or commercialization in peer‑reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant area.
  • Emerging recognition by external scientific communities as an expert in applying epidemiology/outcomes research to drug development and commercialization.
  • Experience conducting primary data collection studies.
  • Experience in a client‑facing role.
