What is a VP?

VP stands for Vice President, a senior-level executive role in many organizations. VPs are typically responsible for overseeing specific departments or divisions, setting strategic goals, and ensuring their teams meet business objectives. They often report directly to the company’s President, CEO, or other top executives, serving as key decision-makers and leaders within the organization. The specific responsibilities of a VP can vary depending on the industry and the company’s size. VPs play a crucial role in shaping company policies, managing resources, and driving business growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vice president (VP), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vice President, you need strong leadership, strategic planning, and business acumen, typically backed by a relevant degree and significant industry experience. Familiarity with enterprise management systems, financial analysis tools, and project management software is often required. Exceptional communication, decision-making, and team-building skills distinguish top performers in this role. These abilities are vital for driving organizational growth, aligning teams, and achieving high-level business objectives.

The main difference between a Vp and a Marketing Manager lies in their scope and level of responsibility. Both roles require marketing knowledge, but Vps are more involved in high-level decision-making and long-term planning.

What are some common challenges faced by vice presidents when managing cross-functional teams?

Vice Presidents often oversee teams that span multiple departments, which can present challenges such as aligning diverse goals, managing communication barriers, and resolving conflicting priorities. Building trust and fostering collaboration among different functional groups is key, as is ensuring clear communication of organizational objectives. VPs must also be adept at balancing strategic oversight with hands-on leadership to drive projects forward and maintain team motivation.

Job Description

Job Summary:

Trucordia is a PE-backed national insurance brokerage with 200+ locations and an active M&A roll-up. Our competitive edge is faster time-to-market on AI-embedded capabilities for our producers, service teams, and clients. Trucordia Go is our first flagship product, with a roadmap of others behind it.

The VP of Infrastructure, Operations & Platforms plays a critical role for that strategy. You own the technology that runs the business every day and the shared platforms that Product, Data & Analytics, and Security builds on. The role exists because our growth depends on shipping AI products quickly, securely, and repeatably, and that requires modern platform capability rather than traditional business operations.

We need a builder and enabler in this position, not just an overseer. You will inherit live transformation work (zero-trust network rollout, cloud consolidation, branch modernization) and accelerate it while standing up the platform capabilities that enable our product roadmap.

Primary Success Metrics:

  • Platform adoption by Product, Data & Analytics, and AI teams.
  • Product Delivery NPS of your platform and shared services.
  • Time-to-market for new AI products and capabilities, measured against business commitments.
  • Branch and employee productivity (uptime, MTTR, first-touch resolution, employee technology NPS).
  • M&A integration cycle time on the technology stack.
  • With success from all of the above measured on outcomes, not infrastructure metrics.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operating the platform capabilities that Product, D&A, and AI teams consume-continuous integration and delivery pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, observability and monitoring, secrets management, identity services, deployment automation, and the AI-enabling platform services (model orchestration, evaluation infrastructure, retrieval and grounding services) that our roadmap requires. You run this as a product: intake from Product leadership, published roadmap, SLAs, capacity reserved for unplanned needs. Platform adoption is your primary measure of success.
  • Public cloud strategy and operations including landing zones, reliability engineering, and cloud financial management. You set the architecture and run the environment that everything else builds on.
  • End-User Services, Service Desk & ITSM
  • Employee technology experience across 200+ locations: device lifecycle, productivity and collaboration tooling, AI-enabled employee assistance, and identity-driven access. Modern service desk with shift-left automation, self-service, and AI-assisted resolution. Disciplined ITSM (incident, change, problem) measured by employee productivity, not just ticket throughput.
  • Operate and evolve a modern zero-trust network architecture spanning headquarters and all branches, delivered through cloud-based secure access services. Branch connectivity, wireless, and physical infrastructure standards including a repeatable Day-1 integration playbook for acquired entities.
  • Shared resourcing across your function; identity cutover, network onboarding, endpoint enrollment, application rationalization. You own integration cycle time and the tradeoff conversations with the executive team when integrations compete with platform and product work for the same capacity.
  • The CISO defines policies, standards, and control requirements. You operate the technologies that fulfill them; enterprise identity, endpoint detection and response, network security enforcement, and the operational tooling that runs the environment. You select, implement, and run the tools; the CISO confirms controls meet policy. First responder, with the CISO, during incidents.
  • PE-grade discipline on a complex multi-vendor stack: contract terms, exit ramps, data portability, TCO transparency. Build vs. buy vs. partner decisions grounded in scalability across acquired entities.

Operating Model & Peer Relationships

  • You operate in close partnership with four peer leaders. Our operating model expects leaders to stretch and collaborate across orgs where needed.
    • Head of Product: your primary internal customer. Product owns the roadmap and feature delivery for internal and client-facing applications; you provide the platforms and shared services they ship on. Joint intake and prioritization rituals are required.
    • Head of Data & Analytics: both customer and collaborator. D&A owns the data strategy and analytical products; you operate the data platform infrastructure underneath. Boundaries between platform operation and data product ownership are defined jointly.
    • Head of Enterprise Architecture: sets technology standards and the "build once, use many" mandate; you deliver the reference implementations and operate the standardized platforms. With standards and platform capability working in tandem.
    • Chief Information Security Officer: defines security policy, risk posture, and compliance requirements; you operate the technologies that meet them. Decisions on operational tooling that runs the environment sit with you, with CISO confirmation that controls meet policy.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years in technology infrastructure and operations, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role at a multi-site enterprise.
  • Demonstrated experience operating an internal developer platform or shared services function as a product - with measurable adoption and engineering-velocity outcomes - not just managing operations underneath one.
  • Hands-on track record running public cloud platforms at scale with cloud financial management discipline.
  • Direct experience with zero-trust network architectures, modern enterprise identity, and managed detection and response operations.
  • Demonstrated experience modernizing a traditional ops organization toward cloud-native, automation-first operating models.
  • Experience integrating acquired companies onto a common technology stack - preferably in a PE-backed or roll-up environment.
  • Clear point of view on the operating model between security policy ownership and security technology execution.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Experience supporting AI/ML product delivery from a platform perspective: model orchestration, evaluation infrastructure, MLOps tooling, secure inference at scale.
  • Insurance, financial services, or other regulated-industry experience.
  • Prior PE portfolio company experience and comfort operating against a value-creation plan.
