  • Partner with senior leadership to prepare and communicate portfolio performance, risk metrics, and strategic updates to stakeholders.

Job description

Macdonald & Company has been exclusively retained by a private real estate investment platform to appoint a Vice President, Portfolio Management & Operations based in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a newly created position designed to help institutionalize and scale the firmโ€™s reporting, analytics, and cross-functional operating capabilities amid continued growth across its investment platform.

Position Summary

The Vice President, Portfolio Management & Operations will serve as a highly strategic, cross-functional partner to senior leadership, helping institutionalize reporting, analytics, and portfolio-level decision-making across the platform. This individual will work closely with teams spanning originations, underwriting, diligence, and asset management to improve how information is gathered, synthesized, communicated, and ultimately leveraged to drive stronger investment and operational outcomes.

This role is intentionally broad and is designed for someone who understands how real estate investment platforms function end-to-end. The successful candidate will possess the ability to connect fragmented information across teams, create organizational clarity, and transform complex data into actionable business intelligence and executive-level communication.

The position is especially well suited for a professional who enjoys operating at the intersection of analytics, strategy, and execution, while playing a direct role in shaping how a high-growth investment platform matures.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy & Cross-Functional Oversight

  • Develop a deep understanding of the firmโ€™s originations, underwriting, diligence, and asset management workflows, and how they interact across the broader platform.
  • Serve as a cross-functional partner to leadership, helping connect information across teams and improve organizational alignment.
  • Identify friction points, duplicative workstreams, process inefficiencies, and gaps in accountability, while recommending scalable solutions.
  • Help create greater consistency in how information is collected, organized, analyzed, and shared across the organization.
  • Act as a central point of coordination between tactical asset-level execution and higher-level portfolio strategy.

Portfolio Analytics & Reporting

  • Evaluate current dashboards, reporting systems, information pipelines, and internal business processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Build, enhance, and institutionalize scalable reporting frameworks that support portfolio oversight, executive decision-making, and external stakeholder communication.
  • Synthesize financial, operational, and investment data into actionable portfolio-level insights, trends, and recommendations.
  • Design and implement KPI frameworks, portfolio analytics, and reporting tools to improve visibility into performance, risk, and strategic priorities.
  • Support recurring portfolio reviews, executive updates, and performance reporting processes.

Capital Partner & Executive Communication

  • Partner closely with senior leadership to elevate reporting and communication with institutional capital partners, including portfolio performance, loan activity, risk metrics, and strategic initiatives.
  • Translate complex, asset-level information into polished, executive-level materials suitable for boards, lenders, investment partners, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparation of board presentations, investment committee materials, recurring partner updates, and ad hoc strategic analyses.
  • Help reduce the burden on project-level and asset management teams by assuming greater ownership of portfolio reporting and investor-facing communication.

Strategic Initiatives & Platform Development

  • Assist senior leadership with strategic initiatives tied to scaling the business, improving operating leverage, and institutionalizing the platform.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to systems, reporting cadence, and business processes to improve organizational efficiency.
  • Partner with functional leaders to support special projects, operational improvements, and firmwide strategic priorities.
  • Help establish repeatable frameworks that support the next phase of the firmโ€™s growth.

Candidate Profile

  • The ideal candidate is analytically rigorous, highly organized, and exceptionally polished in both written and verbal communication. This individual must be equally comfortable operating in the details alongside functional leaders while maintaining the credibility and executive presence required to engage sophisticated institutional stakeholders.
  • Success in the role will require humility, intellectual curiosity, and a strong work ethic, alongside the ability to move seamlessly between strategic discussions and hands-on execution. The successful candidate will possess a natural ability to simplify complexity, synthesize fragmented information, and transform data into actionable business insight.
  • This position represents an outstanding opportunity for an individual who wants to play a visible role in shaping how a high-growth investment platform evolves and matures.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience across real estate investment, asset management, portfolio management, analytics, or related strategic functions.
  • Experience within residential real estate, land development, build-to-rent, private credit, or adjacent investment strategies preferred.
  • Strong understanding of how real estate investment platforms operate across originations, underwriting, diligence, and asset management functions.
  • Demonstrated success developing dashboards, KPI frameworks, reporting tools, portfolio analytics, or portfolio management systems.
  • Experience synthesizing financial, operational, and investment information into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership.
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including portfolio analysis, trend identification, performance reporting, and strategic synthesis.
  • Experience preparing or presenting materials for executive teams, boards, lenders, investment committees, LPs, or institutional capital partners.
  • Prior experience working within both entrepreneurial and institutional environments is highly desirable.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and portfolio reporting tools; familiarity with business intelligence and data visualization platforms preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced, evolving platform.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the polish and executive presence to engage sophisticated stakeholders.
  • Humble, intellectually curious, and willing to operate both strategically and hands-on to solve problems and improve processes.
