We're hiring a Vice President of Development in our Southwest region. The VP is responsible for leading, managing, inspiring, and implementing fundraising campaigns through strategic direction and by leading a team of fundraising leaders and support staff across New Mexico, Colorado (outside of the Greater Denver area), and Wyoming. The VP will also be responsible for recruitment and leadership of executive volunteer partnerships.

The ideal candidate will live within the designated territory of New Mexico, Colorado, or Wyoming.

We offer a base salary with the potential to earn an incentive up to 25% of your base pay. The potential incentive is based on achieving certain revenue targets.

Responsibilities

The VP will report to the Regional Associate Executive Vice President (AEVP) and will have revenue responsibility of $2.5 million with growth to over $3 million within three years.

  • Collaborate closely with the AEVP and senior leadership to develop and implement strategies that deepen donor relationships and enhance our fundraising and community impact.
  • Lead and manage a team of 4-6 direct reports, ensuring accountability and support for achieving ambitious fundraising goals.
  • Directly oversee development and fundraising campaigns, leading staff teams to achieve bold revenue targets through effective campaign development and volunteer engagement. This will begin with leading a key campaign, building the plan for campaign expansion, and leading additional campaigns over the next three years.
  • Strategically position the Association for bold growth in unrestricted revenue within the designated territory, targeting $2.5 million in revenue by coaching and developing staff for growth.
  • Identify, recruit, onboard, and engage medical and non-medical volunteer partners and leaders. Ensure that volunteer leadership represents a community influence and is empowered to champion fundraising success through their personal and corporate giving.
  • Develop a strategy to directly expand the major gifts program, Cor Vitae Society, to $1M+ within the next three years.
  • Cultivate and lead a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission of the organization, providing resources and direction to achieve campaign goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a development position in a similar non-profit organization.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the management of staff, preferably development or fundraising staff.
  • Experience leading and cultivating high-level leaders at the C-suite level.
  • Direct knowledge of special event fundraising tactics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel throughout the designated states, with the role comprising up to 75% travel time and time in the field; always

requires access to reliable transportation on an immediate basis.

  • Professional communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and/or move large objects (such as boxes) with the expectation that heavier items would be broken down into smaller components or requesting additional assistance may be required before lifting and/or moving.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected pay range will be $85,500 to $139,300. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply to the pay range. American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. This position is incentive-eligible based on achieving certain targets.
