AI at BambooHR

At BambooHR, we're all about setting people free to do great work, and we believe AI is a powerful partner in that mission. We're leaning into intelligent tools to streamline our workflows, giving us more time for high-impact innovation. We look for curious, forward-thinking people who are ready to explore how AI can elevate their work and help us reimagine the future of HR.

Essential Job Duties

Our mission is simple: we want to set people free to do meaningful work. People love our software—and it turns out that people love working here too. We've been recognized as a "Best Company to Work For," and we're proud of our team for creating software that makes an impact in the lives of HR pros and employees all over the world.

BambooHR is seeking a Vice President (VP) of Engineering to translate the company's technical vision into an executable engineering strategy and roadmap. In this role, you will partner closely with the CTO and cross-functional leaders to shape how our products are built and evolved, while leading a high-performing engineering organization through growth and AI adoption. You will balance long-term technical direction with day-to-day execution, ensuring reliable delivery, sound architecture, and disciplined investment as BambooHR continues to scale.

You will:

  • Act as a prominent role model for BambooHR's values, championing a culture of trust, accountability, and data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate with strategic cross-functional partners to define and prioritize technical strategy, investments, and tradeoffs that advance the company mission.
  • Own and clearly communicate the product and technology risk profile, including architecture, technical debt, scalability, execution, talent, and security risks, to the executive leadership team and Board.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the Board, executive leadership team, and company-wide audiences, adapting message and format to context.
  • Integrate the product roadmap, architectural strategy, and organizational health into a single, cohesive execution plan.
  • Design and lead a scalable, high-performing engineering organization that delivers consistently and strengthens over time.
  • Establish and evolve operating rhythms, development processes, and performance metrics that provide visibility into progress, risks, and outcomes and continuously improve execution.
  • Lead the engineering organization through AI adoption, applying AI and ML to how software is built and to the value delivered to customers, while maintaining personal credibility in emerging practices.
  • Own engineering budget, resource planning, and financial performance, ensuring disciplined investment aligned with company priorities and long-term strategy.
  • Attract, hire, develop, and hold accountable strong engineering leaders, building a leadership team that improves over time.
  • Translate complex technical, organizational, and strategic topics into clear narratives that align teams and drive action.
  • Demonstrate sustained commitment to building a healthy, high-performing engineering organization.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • Senior executive experience owning technology strategy, delivery, talent, risk, and financial outcomes for a large engineering organization.
  • Proven ability to scale and lead engineering organizations through growth and change while maintaining delivery and quality.
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI and ML in a product development context, with sound judgment about where and how these technologies create value.
  • Strong enterprise-level systems thinking, with the ability to align product vision, architecture, execution, and organizational health.
  • Credibility with executive peers and Boards, including comfort communicating risk, tradeoffs, and investment decisions.
  • Track record of building, developing, and retaining senior engineering leaders.
  • Financial acumen sufficient to manage significant budgets and make disciplined, long-term investment decisions.
