Job description

The Publications Quality Assurance and Standardization Specialist reports to the Director of Operations / VP of Flight Operations with responsibility for the continuous quality improvement activities, and deployment of quality standards across Flight Operations to ensure the consistency and standardization of processes and procedures to enhance the safety, compliance, and efficiency of Flight Operations. The Publications Quality Assurance and Standardization Specialist utilizes aviation industry formats and quality conventions to explain complex ideas and concepts in clear and easy to understand language that will enable users to perform specific tasks in specific ways. The Publications Quality Assurance and Standardization specialist is familiar with relevant FAA regulations, advisory materials, and Safety Management System (SMS) This position requires effective communication across all areas of Operations, including Flight Operations, Technical Operations and Stations.

Here’s what you’ll do
  • Continuous improvement of Flight Operations by evaluating the quality of processes and procedures in the General Operations Manual (GOM) and other applicable manuals.
  • Use SMS to evaluate current and proposed processes and procedures and interface with other departments to execute any changes.
  • Assist with oversight and execution of strategic initiatives across Flight Operations and Fleet Programs to ensure consistent and standardized approach to processes and procedures.
  • Create, develop, write, and maintain new and existing policies, procedures, and programs under the direction of the manual owners.
  • Edit, standardize, or revise material prepared by other personnel or writers.
  • Study data and conduct in-depth interviews with subject matter experts to understand the company’s policies, procedures and programs.
  • Work with company auditors to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the Flight Operations organization, system, related processes, and procedures.
  • Liaise with company 119 Management Personnel to ensure alignment with responses and corrective action to regulatory and industry agencies such as FAA, IOSA, DOD, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of revisions to FAA regulations and advisory materials.
  • Foster an environment in which quality, safety, and compliance is everyone’s concern.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP Flight Operations/Director of Operations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Degree in Aerospace or English/Technical Writing or equivalent educational achievement
  • Understanding and working knowledge of FAR part 5, 91, and 121
  • Understanding and working knowledge of IOSA requirements
  • Understanding of Safety Management System (SMS) rules
  • At least two (2) years in management or a leadership role
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have authorization to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be flexible and willing to work, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime if needed
  • Must be willing to support occasional travel, 10%
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of aviation experience with at least two years in a technical writing discipline
  • Hold a current, valid Commercial or ATP pilot license
