Role Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Controller, the Vice President, Accounting is a senior finance leader responsible for overseeing key accounting and controllership functions across goeasy’s businesses. This role will provide leadership across corporate accounting, audit support, disbursements, asset and inventory accounting, vendor and expense management, financial controls, and related accounting operations.  

The Vice President, Accounting will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the Company’s financial records, strengthening accounting processes and controls, and supporting the continued evolution of the finance function as the organization grows in scale and complexity. The role will also serve as a key partner in executing finance transformation initiatives, enhancing the control environment, improving operational efficiency, and leveraging technology and automation to support the continued growth and increasing complexity of the organization. 

This individual will lead a high-performing team, drive greater consistency and efficiency across accounting processes, and ensure the organization maintains a strong financial control environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Accounting Leadership 

  • Lead key accounting functions, including Corporate Accounting, assist in audits, Disbursements, Asset & Inventory Accounting, Vendor & Expense Management, and related accounting activities. 
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy and integrity of the Company’s books and records across multiple legal entities and business units. 
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting processes, ensuring timely and accurate close activities. 
  • Maintain strong accounting governance, including adherence to accounting policies, appropriate valuations, provisions, reconciliations and financial controls. 
  • Partner closely with Corporate Reporting to support accurate and timely external financial reporting and disclosure requirements. 
  • Support the SVP, Controller in evaluating and implementing changes to accounting processes, organizational structures and operating models to improve scalability and effectiveness. 
  • Drive standardization of accounting practices and processes across business units and legal entities, where appropriate.

Financial Controls & Governance 

  • Maintain and continuously strengthen the Company’s internal financial control environment. 
  • Establish scalable accounting processes, policies and controls that support the continued growth and increasing complexity of the organization. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, standardization, efficiency and accuracy across accounting processes. 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, Company policies and legal and regulatory requirements. 
  • Support the design, implementation and ongoing operation of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR), including the execution of remediation plans arising from identified control deficiencies. 
  • Oversee accounting and controls related to vendor payments, employee expenses and other corporate disbursements. 

Audit Management 

  • Support the coordination of the Company’s external financial audit and review processes, working closely with the SVP, Controller and Corporate Reporting. 
  • Ensure audit requirements, supporting documentation and remediation items are addressed effectively. 
  • Partner with Internal Audit and other stakeholders on financial controls, accounting processes and identified areas of risk. 
  • Support management responses to audit observations and control deficiencies in collaboration with Internal Audit, External Audit and business stakeholders. 

Finance Transformation & Systems 

  • Support the continued modernization and scalability of the controllership function through process improvement, automation and stronger use of financial systems. 
  • Partner with Technology and Finance stakeholders to enhance systems, reporting capabilities and accounting workflows. 
  • Lead accounting workstreams associated with finance transformation initiatives, including ERP enhancements, close optimization, workflow automation and process redesign. 
  • Identify and champion opportunities to leverage automation, data analytics and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, to improve efficiency, accuracy and scalability. 
  • Partner with Finance Project Management and Technology teams to ensure accounting requirements and control considerations are embedded into project execution. 

Leadership & Business Partnership 

  • Build, coach and develop a high-performing accounting organization with strong technical capability, accountability and succession depth. 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the SVP, Controller and broader Finance leadership team on accounting, controls, and financial governance matters. 
  • Partner with FP&A, Treasury, Corporate Reporting, Investor Relations and business leaders to support enterprise priorities and resolve complex financial matters. 
  • Translate complex accounting and financial matters into clear, practical recommendations for senior leaders. 
  • Partner with SVP, Controller in building organizational capability through talent development, succession planning, coaching and mentorship. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, operational excellence and customer service. 

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant leadership experience within a complex organization. 
  • CPA/CA designation required, with previous public accounting/audit firm experience strongly preferred. 
  • Experience within a publicly traded company.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with significant experience applying IFRS; knowledge of US GAAP is an asset. 
  • Experience overseeing accounting across multiple legal entities and/or business units. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing external financial audits and working with external auditors. 
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian income and indirect taxation; international tax experience is an asset. 
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, accounting governance and financial risk management. 
  • Strong financial systems knowledge and an ability to leverage technology and automation to improve the effectiveness of the finance function. 
  • Proven people leader with the ability to build, coach and develop high-performing teams. 
  • Strong executive communication and business partnership skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial matters and influence senior stakeholders.
