Safety Coordinator

Job Description

Rock Spring Contracting, a leading commercial drywall and specialty contractor, is seeking aSafety Coordinator to ensure a safe and compliant work environment on our commercial construction job sites. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of construction safety standards and the drive to promote a culture of safety across all departments. The Safety Coordinator will work closely with project teams to identify and mitigate potential hazards, deliver training, conduct safety audits, and ensure that safety protocols and regulations are followed on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Communication & Planning: Collaborate with various departments to plan and implement solutions for hazard control, using engineered systems or personal protective equipment (PPE) to eliminate risks.
• Safety Standards & Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including OSHA, VOSH, MOSH, and company safety policies. Keep updated on changes to regulations and best practices in the industry.
• Client Representation: Professionally represent the company during safety inspections and safety-related communications with clients.
• Site Observations & Inspections: Perform regular safety observations, inspections, and audits. Prepare detailed reports on findings and communicate unsafe conditions to management, recommending corrective actions.
• Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation of near misses and incidents, identifying root causes and contributing to the development of corrective and preventative actions.
• Safety Training: Conduct safety training sessions for employees in both English and Spanish, in field or classroom settings. Ensure all team members are knowledgeable about safety protocols and best practices.
• First-Aid Care: Provide first-aid assistance for minor injuries and ensure proper reporting and documentation.
• Other Duties: Assist with additional safety-related tasks and projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience & Knowledge:
  • Minimum 3 years experience in construction safety, risk management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction industry safety standards and practices. Ability to research and stay informed about regulations as needed.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
• Communication & Reporting: Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate safety concerns and solutions clearly. Report-writing and presentation abilities.

• Flexibility: Must be flexible to work variable shifts, including occasional Saturdays.

• Technology Skills: Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and the ability to adapt to new technology and tools.
• Driver's License: Possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Safety Certifications (Preferred):
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required; OSHA 510 preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certified
  • Previous experience in the construction industry is a plus.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, and move around job sites, warehouses, or plant floors for extended periods
• Climbing stairs, ladders, or scaffolding to inspect elevated work areas
• Ability to navigate uneven terrain, construction sites, or outdoor environments
• Bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to inspect equipment, machinery, or confined spaces

• Ability to lift/carry objects, typically in the 20-50 lb range (sometimes up to 50-75 lbs for equipment like safety gear, signage, or spill kits)
• Occasional pushing or pulling of carts, barriers, or equipment
• Adequate vision (including color vision, for reading gauges, labels, and hazard signs)
• Sufficient hearing to detect alarms, machinery irregularities, or verbal warnings
• Ability to wear and effectively use PPE (respirators, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, harnesses)
