Fort Bend County Health and Human Services (FBCHHS) offers a dynamic and diverse unpaid internship experience for students seeking academic credit, practicum hours, or public health preceptorships. Interns gain real-world exposure to local public health operations while supporting community wellness through meaningful projects and professional development.

This is a volunteer/unpaid opportunity designed for students pursuing degrees in Public Health, Healthcare, Social Work, Environmental Sciences, Emergency Management, Communications, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing or related fields. Interns will be matched with divisions and programs based on area of interest, academic requirements, and department needs. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department. *** THIS IS A VOLUNTEER - UNPAID POSITION.

Internship Opportunities May Be Available In the Following Divisions/Programs:

• Clinical Health Services (Immunizations, Tuberculosis (TB), HIV/STI)
• Public Health Emergency Preparedness
• Indigent Health Care Program
• Social Services
• Environmental Health
• Health Communications, Education and Engagement
• Community Health and Wellness (Chronic Disease, Mental Health)
• Epidemiology
• Animal Services
• Emergency Medical Services

Responsibilities May Include:

• Assisting with community outreach, public education, or event coordination
• Supporting health promotion or disease prevention campaigns
• Collecting and analyzing public health data for reporting or program evaluation
• Participating in preparedness drills or emergency response planning
• Assisting environmental health programs/projects
• Aiding in clinical support services such as client intake, appointment scheduling, or immunization documentation (non-clinical tasks only)
• Supporting communications tasks such as social media content creation
• Press release drafting, or material development
• Performing administrative, technical, and clerical support duties aligned with division needs
• Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, community partnerships, or field observations
• Assessment, counseling, and crisis interventions (mental health)
• Additional responsibilities may vary and are dependent upon division/program assignment.

Minimum Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a high school, college/university program seeking academic credit or internship/practicum hours
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with data entry or research preferred
• Ability to manage time effectively and work independently or in a team setting
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Professional conduct and willingness to maintain confidentiality
• Must be flexible regarding assignment, schedule, and location based on program needs
• EMS/Epidemiology (Age 18+)
• Mental Health (Master's Level).
