Job description

Job Summary:

The Trauma Informed Therapist is a full-time, salaried position and an integral member of the Collins Center team. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for providing trauma informed direct counseling and crisis response services to victims of sexual assault and their families.

Responsibilities:

· Deliver therapeutic counseling services to child, adolescent and adult clients and their non-offending caregivers, including individual and caregiver therapy sessions.

· Administer initial assessments and participate in client intake to determine appropriate services and track progress over time.

· Collaborate with clients to develop individualized treatment plans, set therapeutic goals, and define steps to achieve those goals.

· Complete timely and accurate documentation, including progress notes, assessments, treatment plans and contact notes, in compliance with agency policies and legal requirements.

· Establish working knowledge of position funding sources and corresponding work plans.

· Support accurate and timely data collection about services provided.

· Facilitate appropriate referrals for counseling and other social services in collaboration with advocates.

· Participate in regular supervision and/or consultation to discuss client cases, review interventions, and receive feedback.

· Assist clients in managing crises, such as risk of harm to self or others, under supervision, and adhere to safety protocols.

· Shared responsibility to answer Collins Center phones during business hours and provide hotline support to victims. (After hours, on call hotline support is an optional additional employment opportunity).

· Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and educational opportunities to enhance clinical skills and stay informed on best practices.

· Uphold ethical guidelines, client confidentiality, and professional boundaries, adhering to the codes and standards of the counseling profession.

· Participate in and have regular attendance at case management and Collins Center staff meetings

· Act as a liaison, as appropriate, between clients and allied agencies including hospitals, law enforcement, social services, victim/witness programs and the Commonwealth Attorney’s office

· Participate on local counseling, and mental health community networks

Qualifications and Skills:

· Master’s degree in counseling, clinical social work, or marriage and family therapy is required.

· Active registration in Residency or Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.

· Thorough understanding of the impact of sexual assault, victimization, trauma and trauma informed care is preferred;

· Knowledge and experience in the therapy approaches most often used with children, including Play/Sand Tray/Art Therapy, CBT, and EMDR is preferred; willingness to become trained in EBTs and practice with fidelity is required

· Ability to assess clinical needs within a diverse victim – survivor population and provide and ensure the provision of culturally sensitive and appropriate services is required

· Excellent communication and facilitation skills; able to coordinate between diverse groups and individuals including partner agencies, allied professionals, stakeholders, and primary and secondary victims is required
