Job description

Data Analyst
12+ Months COntract
Location: Phoenix, AZ ( Local please )

Data Analyst-type candidate. Ideally local to the Greater Phoenix Area.

Role Overview / Core Need

  • Needs someone who understands database table structures
  • Not required to be a VSAM expert, but should have a basic understanding of legacy file structures
    • Example: converting file-based data into relational database structures

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Mapping
    • Table-to-table mapping
    • File-to-table and table-to-table transformations
    • Two-way, column-level mapping
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Source data → target table structures
    • Mapping logic and dependencies

Data Analysis & Validation

  • Accessing data and running SQL queries for analysis
  • Performing data profiling and quality checks
  • Example challenges:
    • Identifying inconsistent values (e.g., multiple spellings of “Ford”)
    • Handling non-standardized data (e.g., eye color variations)
  • Ability to:
    • Analyze, standardize, and validate inconsistent datasets
    • Apply business rules where none previously existed

Data Cleansing & Transformation

  • Experience creating and running data scripts for cleanup
    • Example: large-scale data cleanup efforts requiring multiple reruns
  • Strong attention to detail (very meticulous with data accuracy)
  • Handling nulls and conditional logic
    • Example: if a suspension exists → notification date may remain null

Reconciliation & Data Integrity

  • Ability to reconcile data between systems
    • Example: determining how many customer records to migrate
  • Making decisions on:
    • What historical data to retain vs. archive
    • Example: records dating back to 1899—what should be carried forward?
  • Must understand expected counts, totals, and outcomes

Tools & Process

  • Mapping work maintained in spreadsheets
  • Interest in leveraging AI for data mapping
    • Candidate should ideally have exposure and be able to demonstrate results
  • Azure experience: nice-to-have, not required

Collaboration & Communication

  • Works closely with:
    • Internal technical team (initially working with Bronco & team)
    • Business stakeholders to complete mapping documentation
  • Responsible for:
    • Filling in mapping spreadsheets
    • Creating documentation (e.g., user stories or equivalent artifacts)
  • Strong communication skills required for cross-functional collaboration

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Conduct data validation and reconciliation checks
    • Weekly or bi-weekly cadence
  • Ensure mapping accuracy and alignment with business requirements

Ideal Candidate Traits

  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with messy, unstandardized data
  • Proven ability to validate, reconcile, and ensure data integrity

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our growing data platform team, supporting both enterprise data infrastructure and large-scale data migration initiatives. In this role, you will perform structured data analysis, profiling, and validation across legacy and target systems, while providing input into the design and build of data pipelines. Working within a modern Microsoft data stack, you will contribute to the movement and transformation of data across multiple systems and storage paradigms, ensuring that data is accurate, complete, and aligned with defined business rules and requirements.

In close collaboration with Business Data SMEs, Technical SMEs, Functional Area Business Analysts, and conversion developers, you will identify data anomalies, support data cleansing decisions, and contribute to the development and validation of source-to-target data mappings and transformation logic. You will facilitate data profiling, gap identification, and issue resolution throughout the conversion lifecycle, and support reconciliation, validation, and business sign-off activities. This role is critical to ensuring that migrated data meets functional, regulatory, and operational expectations while enabling reliable, high-quality data for downstream analytics and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform detailed data analysis on source system data to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, and data quality issues.

· Support data analysis, profiling, and transformation activities across legacy and target systems, including movement between relational, NoSQL, and object storage environments.

· Develop and maintain two-way data mappings (source-to-target and target-to-source) to ensure completeness, traceability, and alignment with business requirements.

· Maintain a strong understanding of target data models, database structures, and data usage patterns to support accurate transformation and validation.
