General Purpose

Whether it's tutoring and homework help, serving as a counselor-in-training for camp or Kids Day Off programs, or assisting with recreation-based activities, your service helps strengthen connections and build a vibrant community.
Volunteering is an opportunity to serve others by engaging in activities such as facilitating youth programs, providing educational support, and performing clerical tasks. Through service, you empower others and create lasting connections within Parkland's diverse community.
Essential Job Functions
  • Support City of Parkland staff members with recreation aftercare programs, and camps.
  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance to children in aftercare program.
  • Assist in camp, Parent Night Out or Kids Day Off programs as a counselor-in-training.
  • Engage in recreational program setup, activity facilitation, and cleanup.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Offer general recreation-based program support, including clerical or administrative assistance if needed.

Qualifications
  • Must be a High School student and at least 14 years old.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
  • Comfortable working with children and diverse groups of people.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Physically capable of performing light tasks and lifting items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, and move around for extended periods.
  • Vision necessary to identify and organize items.
  • Excellent customer service and teamwork skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • May involve lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible weights constantly.
  • Volunteers must be able to perform tasks requiring physical activity, such as standing, bending, or climbing.
  • Assignments may require working indoors or outdoors for varying durations.
