Job description

SmartCOMM Engineer
Job Summary
We are hiring a SmartCOMM Engineer to join the Applications team, responsible for designing, building, testing, and maintaining SmartCOMM templates, data mappings, and output configurations that generate policy, billing, and correspondence documents for insurance and business operations. The ideal candidate has hands-on SmartCOMM Designer experience and a strong background in enterprise document composition, with prior experience on legacy CCM platforms considered a strong asset.
Job Duties
  • Design, build, and unit-test SmartCOMM templates, content blocks, and business rules using SmartCOMM Designer.
  • Build, remediate, and enhance SmartCOMM templates and business rules, including migrating logic from legacy composition platforms as needed.
  • Build and validate data mappings (XML/JSON) between source systems (policy administration, billing, claims) and SmartCOMM templates.
  • Configure and test multi-channel output (print, PDF, email, portal) ensuring consistent rendering and compliance with brand/regulatory standards.
  • Partner with QA and business analysts to define test cases, execute SIT/UAT cycles, and resolve defects.
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to document generation, formatting, fonts, and data population.
  • Document technical designs, mapping specifications, and unit test evidence per program standards.
  • Collaborate with the Guidewire composition/orchestration teams where document triggers integrate with policy workflows.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement) and provide effort estimates.
  • Support release activities including migration planning, deployment validation, and post-release monitoring.

Qualifications
  • 4-5+ years of hands-on experience with SmartCOMM (Smart Communications) Designer - including experience under its prior product name, Thunderhead - or equivalent CCM platform, with strong willingness/ability to ramp quickly on SmartCOMM.
  • Solid understanding of document composition concepts: templates, content library, business rules, data mapping, and multi-channel output.
  • Experience working in an insurance, banking, or other regulated industry producing customer-facing correspondence (policy documents, statements, notices) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills; comfortable tracing data issues from source system through to rendered output.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work directly with business stakeholders on requirements.
    Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience migrating or converting templates between enterprise CCM platforms.
  • Experience with Guidewire (PolicyCenter/BillingCenter) integration points for document triggers.
  • Exposure to font/brand asset management and print production standards (e.g., Monotype-licensed fonts, FOP Config, PDF/A compliance).
  • Basic AWS cloud literacy - familiarity with core services (S3, EC2, IAM) and general comfort operating in a cloud-hosted environment.
  • Knowledge of OpenText Exstream is a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Travel Requirements
  • Occasional travel to off-site business meetings or conferences. (5% proficiency)

Remarkable benefits:
• Health coverage for medical, dental, vision
• 401(K) saving plans with company match AND Pension
• Tuition assistance
• Floating holidays and PTO for community volunteer programs
• Paid parental leave
• Wellness programs
• Employee discounts (membership, insurance,
travel, entertainment, services and more!)
