To thrive as a Volunteer Quantitative Modeler, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis, often supported by relevant coursework or a degree in a quantitative field. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R, statistical software, and data visualization tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for developing accurate models that support data-driven decision-making and effectively contribute to the organization's objectives.

What are Volunteer Quantitative Modeling roles?

Volunteer Quantitative Modeling roles involve using mathematical, statistical, or computational techniques to help organizations solve problems, analyze data, and make informed decisions. As a volunteer, you might assist nonprofits, research groups, or community organizations by building predictive models, analyzing datasets, or creating simulations. These positions allow you to apply your quantitative skills to meaningful projects without compensation, often supporting causes like public health, education, or environmental sustainability.

What are some common challenges faced by volunteer quantitative modelers when integrating their work with non-profit organizations?

Volunteer quantitative modelers often encounter challenges related to limited data availability and varying data quality, as many non-profits may not have robust data collection systems. Tower is home to some of the world's best systematic trading and engineering talent. We empower portfolio managers to build their teams and strategies independently while providing the economies of scale that come from a large, global organization.
Engineers thrive at Tower while developing electronic trading infrastructure at a world class level. Our engineers solve challenging problems in the realms of low-latency programming, FPGA technology, hardware acceleration and machine learning. Our ongoing investment in top engineering talent and technology ensures our platform remains unmatched in terms of functionality, scalability and performance.
At Tower, every employee plays a role in our success. Our Business Support teams are essential to building and maintaining the platform that powers everything we do - combining market access, data, compute, and research infrastructure with risk management, compliance, and a full suite of business services. Our Business Support teams enable our trading and engineering teams to perform at their best.
At Tower, employees will find a stimulating, results-oriented environment where highly intelligent and motivated colleagues inspire each other to reach their greatest potential.
As a Quantitative Researcher in one of Tower's trading teams, you will use Tower's in-house research and trading platform-one of the fastest and most comprehensive in the world-to build and deploy systematic trading strategies. Our researchers use statistical and machine learning techniques to uncover patterns in market behavior used to build predictive models, formalize and solve optimization problems to create trading strategies, and are involved in the entire process from idea generation to production results.
This is a new team operating on a collaborative basis, with a rare opportunity to work on challenging problems across the full business scope and have outsized impact.
Location is flexible for the right candidate, though New York or Hong Kong are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Analyzing large data sets of various origins to form and test hypotheses regarding market behavior
  • Researching and building statistical models of financial instruments' valuation and returns
  • Formalizing and implementing trading strategies and algorithms through solving the appropriate optimization problems
  • Building robust and scalable quantitative research methods, tools and platforms, across the full pipeline from data extraction and analysis to model calibration and reporting
Qualifications
  • Solid academic background in mathematics, machine learning, computer science, physics or a similar quantitative field with a strong research experience equivalent to research-oriented masters degree or ideally a PhD in the field
  • Strong quantitative research experience in the systematic trading space, across idea generation, research, deployment, and production analysis, with a track record of delivering impactful results
  • Effective programming skills and prior experience building high quality, scalable software in scripting / dynamic languages such as Python or lower level languages such as C++, ideally in both
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both at a high level and in details

Anticipated New York and Chicago annual base salary range $120,000- $200,000, plus eligible for bonus(es).
Benefits
Tower's headquarters are in the historic Equitable Building, right in the heart of NYC's Financial District and our impact is global, with over a dozen offices around the world.

Our open concept workplace, casual dress code, and well-stocked kitchens reflect the value we place on a friendly, collaborative environment where everyone is respected, and great ideas win.
Our benefits include:
  • Generous paid time off policies
  • Savings plans and other financial wellness tools available in each region
  • Hybrid working opportunities
  • Free breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily
  • In-office wellness experiences and reimbursement for select wellness expenses (e.g., gym, personal training and more)
  • Company-sponsored sports teams and fitness events (JPM Corporate Challenge, Cycle for Survival, Wall Street Rides FAR and more)
  • Volunteer opportunities and charitable giving
  • Social events, happy hours, treats, and celebrations throughout the year
  • Workshops and continuous learning opportunities

At Tower, you'll find a collaborative and welcoming culture, a diverse team and a workplace that values both performance and enjoyment. No unnecessary hierarchy. No ego. Just great people doing great work - together.
Tower Research Capital is an equal opportunity employer.
