We're Hiring: Crisis Triage Specialist

Location: Cookeville TN | Schedule - Mon-Fri 2p-10p

Are you passionate about making a difference in moments that matter most? Volunteer Behavioral Health is seeking a dedicated Crisis Triage Specialist to join our behavioral health team. This dynamic role blends crisis intervention, clinical assessment, and client support to provide compassionate, timely care to individuals navigating behavioral health emergencies.

What You’ll Do

As a Crisis Triage Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our response team, offering face-to-face and phone-based support to individuals in psychiatric, emotional, or substance-related crises. You’ll rotate between roles based on program needs, ensuring every client receives the care and dignity they deserve.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting crisis assessments and de-escalation interventions
  • Responding to walk-ins and dispatch referrals with comprehensive evaluations
  • Coordinating referrals and follow-up care
  • Triaging 988 Lifeline and crisis line calls
  • Supporting clients with daily living, medication, and safety checks
  • Maintaining accurate documentation in our Electronic Health Record system
  • Collaborating with field staff, supervisors, and external providers
  • Assisting with facility operations, front desk duties, and emergency planning

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field
  • 1+ year experience in crisis intervention, behavioral health, or residential care preferred
  • Calm, confident demeanor in high-pressure situations
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Qualifacts)
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility with rotating shifts
