Job description

The Weitz Company is hiring an Insurance Program Manager who will manage the successful procurement and day-to-day support of company and project insurance programs for our company and our related entities. This role will serve as a liaison between the Risk Management team members, project teams, insurance companies, and broker partners. The Insurance Program Manager will also provide insurance program guidance to project teams and identify/support related training efforts across the company.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage all aspects of insurance coverage for construction projects including risk assessment, contract insurance review, insurance procurement, and supporting claims team with insurance related information and guidance
  • Manage the renewal process of assigned insurance lines of business which including property, casualty, workers’ compensation, automobile, professional, pollution, executive risk, cyber, subcontractor default insurance, and any sponsored controlled insurance programs (CCIP) while ensuring programs meet established company insurance needs
  • Secure project-based insurance at a competitive price and in compliance with contractual insurance requirements, ensure appropriate coverage and/or client directives are met, and bind the insurance upon required management approval
  • Manage and review assigned project specific insurance placement requests, securing adequate application information, collaborating with brokers, obtaining quotes, and addressing related questions
  • Provide guidance on contract insurance requirements/coverage issues or questions that arise from a project or claim and advise on any client’s unique needs or requests
  • Manage and provide guidance on controlled insurance program policies and administration
  • Develop processes and procedures for insurance program administration
  • Identify insurance training opportunities for employees and develop/lead related training needs as appropriate
  • Understand and research company and client needs to drive decision-making while selecting or creating insurance programs
  • Assist with the review of compliance expectations for contract insurance requirements
  • Support project teams with guidance related to compliance with subcontractor and supplier insurance requirements
  • Oversee the issuance of insurance certificates and automobile identification cards
  • Maintain insurance related information and guidelines on company intranet
  • Identify continuous improvement initiatives; review proposed initiatives and determine path to implementation while supporting compliance requirements
  • Provide development, mentorship, and coaching to team members

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management, or insurance is required
    • Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) professional designation preferred
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of experience addressing client insurance needs including programs and day-to-day insurance inquiries
    • Must hold or be willing to obtain within 6 months of hire an active State of Iowa Insurance Producer License (Property & Casualty)
    • Must hold or be willing to obtain within 3 years of hire CIC or CPCU designation
    • Knowledge of insurance programs within the construction industry is preferred
  • Skills:
    • Ability to thoroughly read, understand, and educate employees on insurance documents
    • Extremely organized and comfortable balancing multiple projects and initiatives
    • Possess initiative and the ability to make independent decisions
    • Comfortable presenting in front of various groups
    • High level of business acumen, attention to details, and strong negotiation skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and individuals across the organization

    • Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire

    • Must be able to work in-person at our office in Des Moines 5 days per week
