Job description

Volunteers are the HEART of Heartland Hospice! We are looking for special individuals who live in oak Lawn, Burbank and surrounding communities, to join our growing team of superstar volunteers!

Our volunteer program is dedicated to providing quality care to our patients and families. Below is a list of -volunteer opportunities. Days & times are very flexible and we work with the volunteers schedule. Volunteers usually commit to a minimum of 6 months of volunteering with 2 hours per month minimum. Please give me a call to set up an interview. We require all of our volunteers to complete an interview, fill out an application, provide us with three references, pass a criminal background check, TB test, and complete our volunteer training. You may reach me at 815-469-7100. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

Companion Volunteers

Companion volunteers bring the gift of friendship to our patients. They enhance quality of life through regular visits by offering support, companionship and assistance with non-medical tasks to ensure that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort.

Vigil Volunteers

The role of the vigil volunteer is to be with patients, in their last hours of living, who would otherwise be alone. While they do not assist with direct patient care or transport family members, vigil volunteers provide support to the family at the patientโ€™s bedside.

Vets for Vets Volunteers

Similar to the companion volunteer role, our veteran volunteers are matched with a veteran patient who may have a similar background. These volunteers receive specific training focused on a veteranโ€™s needs.

Pet Visitor Volunteers

This opportunity allows you to share your petโ€™s unconditional love with hospice patients! Pet visitor volunteers draw on the bond between animals and humans in order to help improve daily function and enhance quality of life for patients.

Night out Volunteers

Volunteers provide caretakers with a much needed break for them to go out for a dinner and a movie with their family or friends. Heartland recognizes that these simple but meaningful activities can make a true difference in someoneโ€™s life.
