Job Summary

Three Square Food Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food assistance to individuals and families in need across Southern Nevada. Our mission is to provide wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. Through our partnerships and programs, we distribute millions of meals each year and work tirelessly to address the root causes of hunger in our community.

The Volunteer Lead ensures a safe, organized, and engaging volunteer experience at Three Square Food Bank. This role facilitates daily warehouse operations by guiding staff and volunteers, setting up workspaces, and ensuring products are received and organized efficiently. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory control, assisting with staff and volunteer training, and creating a positive, productive environment. Success in this role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and a commitment to staff and volunteer engagement and operational excellence.ย 


This is not a managerial role. The Volunteer Operations Lead will not have direct reports.ย 


Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure the warehouse remains clean, organized, and safe.ย 
  • Conducts and follows a regular schedule of cleaning creates a productive workspace for both volunteers and staff.
  • Guide and assist volunteers and staff in their daily tasks, ensuring they have the necessary resources and information to perform effectively, including safety procedures, warehouse operations, and program-specific requirements.
  • Maintain timely and clear communication with volunteers, staff, and management. Report volunteer activities and any issues directly to the Volunteer Manager.
  • Assign appropriate tasks to volunteers and staff based on skill levels and priorities, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Work closely with various departments to support overall operations and address any needs or challenges collaboratively.
  • Assist with inventory checks, restocking, and organization to maintain accuracy and a smooth workflow within the warehouse.
  • Evaluate and determine the amount of product needed to accommodate large volunteer groups.
  • Responsible for supervision of volunteers both onsite and offsite.ย 
  • Responsible for on-going quality control of product following Three Square guidelines.
  • Ensure that in-coming salvage loads are properly received and stored.ย 
  • Ensure that all discarded product is properly and securely disposed of.ย 
  • Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer experience by providing ongoing support, feedback, and recognition of volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health laws and Three Square regulations.

  • Ability to guide and support volunteers and staff effectively.ย 
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
  • Social perceptiveness with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills and the ability resolve conflict and problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to handle interruptions, remain focused, and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Customer service knowledge, including assessing needs and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and volunteer management software.
  • Active listening, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical warehouse tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with at least one year of experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience in a warehouse or distribution setting preferred.
  • Experience overseeing groups of people in an operational setting.
  • Experience with warehouse and inventory management systems, such as CERES and MealConnect.ย 
  • Valid state driver's license (must be maintained throughout employment).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Manual and electric pallet jack certification (or willingness to obtain)

Working Environment

  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions or outdoors in the elements.ย 
  • Job tasks are performed in close proximity to other people and volunteers
  • Must travel to multiple sites and locations.
