Job description

The Database Manager will lead the MS SQL team for enterprise data platforms. As a senior leader in the Infrastructure and Operations organization, you will define and execute the database platform strategy, vision, and roadmap for cloud and hybrid‑cloud environments. This role will architect next‑generation data platforms and be accountable for building highly scalable data solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the infrastructure platform engineering team responsible for the SQL Server environment.
  • Drive the database platform transformation and modernization initiative supporting always‑on enterprise applications and services.
  • Accelerate infrastructure transformation by provisioning and managing infrastructure through infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) to enable self‑service and reduce handoffs.
  • Collaborate with IT stakeholders to develop, communicate, and execute a multi‑year technology strategy that simplifies architecture and delivery models.
  • Partner with the architecture team to align tools and data platforms with modern data architecture practices (modern data stack).
  • Provide thought leadership for platform and data architecture as the organization moves to hybrid‑cloud.
  • Offer Tier 2 and Tier 3 engineering support, ensuring 24x7x365 availability for assigned technology and vendor escalation.
  • Collaborate with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity teams to integrate recovery processes into everyday engineering and operations.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with IT stakeholders, including Delivery Engineering, Application Development, Architecture, Security, and Operations, to ensure technology investments support business strategy.
  • Foster and drive organizational change through technology and process optimization.
  • Establish KPIs to measure the organization’s performance and effectiveness.
  • Manage ongoing vendor relationships, including evaluating products and services.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent to build and sustain a world‑class team.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of data solution architecture, design, development, and platform engineering experience; SQL Server expert.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience within large, global financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated technology and people leadership in architecting and deploying highly scalable data solutions to the cloud.
  • 5+ years of experience architecting modern data integration frameworks, data modeling, ETL/ELT workflows, and highly scalable distributed systems using open source and emerging data architecture designs and patterns.
  • 5+ years of proven track record leading migration of data platforms to new data centers and/or AWS.
Core Competencies
  • Expertise in database platforms: SQL Server/Always On, Oracle RACS, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, DynamoDB.
  • Knowledge of cloud data services such as OLTP, ODS, data lakes, and analytics platforms (Redshift, EMR, Dataiku, Tableau, Presto).
  • Proficiency in data warehousing, big data, and analytics platform technologies.
  • Experience developing, communicating, and executing multi‑year technology strategies and roadmaps.
  • Ability to convey technical solutions to the entire organization and collaborate with senior leaders across the firm.
  • Agile mindset with a thorough understanding of modern work practices such as DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile project delivery.
  • Extensive experience using management configuration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, CloudFormation) to manage data platforms at scale.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience leading and influencing teams.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, security, privacy, and risk safeguards required of a global financial institution.

  • Hands‑on experience with AWS Landing Zone, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redshift, RDS, Snowflake, ECS, EKS, Transit Gateway, Storage Gateway, Glacier, EBS, EFS, S3, IAM, Lambda, Jira, Terraform, GridGain Cache, FiveTran, HVR, CI/CD pipelines in GitHub, Atlassian, Jenkins, Puppet, Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, JSON, and YAML.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $155,300.00 – $258,800.00 (actual base salary varies based on qualifications and location). The total rewards package includes 401(k) matching, health benefits, employee stock options, paid time off, volunteer time off, and more.
