The position is expected to start 05/01/2026 and end 10 weeks later
Up to 10 weeks (maximum 400 hours), 40 hours per week.
No work will be performed on the following University of
Idaho observed holidays - Memorial Day (May 25), Juneteenth (June 19) and
Independence Day (July 4).
Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
Are you seeking an experience with variety, and a chance to implement your ideas? In this internship you will act on your abilities and classroom knowledge by helping the community with real-world, hands-on issues. This internship is for college students at Idaho colleges and universities to increase their skills in teaching, research, and educational program development. The intern will work directly with Extension Educator Jared Gibbons to support high-priority programs in Horticulture, and or Agronomy.
Major Projects & Responsibilities
Depending on the intern's major and field of study, responsibilities and projects may include the following:
- Pest Monitoring & Research: Addressing insect and disease issues in municipal parks and street trees through active monitoring and literature review to develop education programs.
- Master Gardener Coordination: Creating and managing volunteer hour opportunities and special events for the Master Gardener program.
- Multimedia Production: Assisting with the production and editing of educational videos focused on pasture management.
- Development of Small Farm educational events and programs.
- Event Planning: Assisting in the planning, logistics, and implementation of the Regional Gardener's Convention.
- Digital Outreach: Developing social media content or digital outputs to market Extension projects and share seasonal tips with the community.
Position Requirements & Deliverables
- Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Ability to transport supplies and equipment to multiple program sites.
- Final Report: Upon conclusion of the internship, the intern is required to submit a final report (maximum two pages) to both the District Director and the Director of Extension. The report must include:
- Accomplishments and challenges.
- Recommendations and knowledge gained.
- Student's university, college, major, and permission to be quoted in Extension materials.

- Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits within the last year (these 12 credits may come from high school dual enrollment credits) at one of the following eight Idaho public universities or colleges (private Idaho universities or colleges do not qualify) and are currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Priority will be given to University of Idaho student applicants:

- Experience collaborating with team members or external partners
- Experience producing written materials (e.g., reports, summaries, or correspondence)
- Experience delivering verbal presentations or sharing information in group settings
- Proficiency using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and email
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed coursework in Horticulture, Agronomy, Microbiology or other relevant subject areas
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently
- Experience answering phones, responding to email, and communicating through social media
